The unit would move up from Anzio to Civitavecchia, and then to Belvedere. Throughout this route, they would be experience combat and experience some casualties, even getting hit with an artillery barrage while crossing a river. Tsuda details the routes of both the 100th Infantry Regiment and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the hardships they faced. He explains which battles were the hardest for him and where he received each of his medals. As his brother was also in the 100th Infantry Regiment, he would also occasionally see him during rest periods. After this, the unit would head to Arno River.</text>

<text>Tsuda discusses meeting up with the 100th Infantry Battalion once arrived in Italy. He would be assigned to a rifle company, even though he was trained as a heavy weapons expert. After this, they would march to Anzio. While there, he would get his first taste of war, including burying dead German bodies and guarding occupied houses. Next, they would march to Belvedere, where they would attack the German lines from behind, taking many SS troops as prisoners. While this was happening, a German tank would also begin it's attack, but in the end, they would all be killed as well. </text>

He would report to his draft board and be shipped out to Camp Shelby in Mississippi. There he would learn basic training with heavy weapons and guard the Afrikan Korps German prisoners of war. He would be sent over early to Europe as they were in need of replacements and would take a convoy of ships through the Strait of Gibraltar. As Mount Vesuvius was erupting, they would have to take a detour but would eventually end up in Italy, where they would be on their way to link up with the 100th Infantry Battalion. </text>
