An account of the resource
Muranaka discusses both his father and mother's backgrounds and the influence that they had on his life even as young boy. Though living in poverty, his father was able to buy him an encyclopedia and type writer to instill in him the importance of education. Next, he discusses growing up on the big island in Hawaii and then moving at the age of 16 to Honolulu to complete his high schooling. After graduation, Muranaka found it difficult to find a good paying job as discrimination towards Japanese Americans was all around in the work force. After moving around to a few different jobs, he was drafted into the Army and began his training at the Schofield Barracks where they would soon face the attacks on Pearl Harbor.

An account of the resource
Muranaka goes through his work in the Army after the end of World War Two, where he served in the Korean War. Next, he discusses the importance of Nisei soldiers during the occupation of Japan, and how big of an impact communication is in order to keep everyone on the same page. With many differences in culture, language and upbringing, Muranaka worked hard to make Japanese soldiers feel at ease while interrogating them. As many Nisei soldiers were also doing similar work, it became key to have skilled linguists in occupied Japan.

Description
An account of the resource
After the war, Kenichi Muranaga gets married in 1946 and works serval jobs before starting his laundromat business in 1963. Kenichi and Yoshiko have one son, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Kenichi is proud of his family, especially of his brother Kiyoshi. Kenichi says Kiyoshi is a true soldier. Anyone who knows Kiyoshi would say the same. He is an outstanding soldier who goes beyond the call of duty.
Kenichi recalls his family receiving a letter that Kiyoshi's Department of the Army Civilian Award (DAC) is upgraded to the Medal of Honor. The whole Muranaga family travels to Washington DC for the ceremony.
On the day of the ceremony, there are at least 20 recipients of the Medal of Honor. Kenichi discusses the contribution of the Nisei legacy and what it means to be in a segregated unit.
Although the government gives reparations, Kenichi shares his sentiments on the issue.

After his recovery, he goes to Anzio and stays in Naples for a while. Shortly after, Thomas gets trench foot and is reclassified from the messenger squad to being a driver.
Thomas returns to Hawaii on September 5, 1945, after being discharge from service. He shares his homecoming experience and works at the Post Office as a mail courier for 27 years before retiring.

An account of the resource
Thomas Ukichi Wozumi discusses basic training and going to the Mainland to McCoy and Camp Shelby. Thomas changes from the regular Army to the 100th Battalion. There are differences between the Mainland soldiers and the Hawaiian soldiers. However, Thomas says those difference do not matter when you are working closely together.
Overseas, Thomas's duties include being a driver for high ranking officers and a messenger. He shares a story about good and bad leadership and the effects they have. Thomas speaks highly of Tech. Sgt. Yeiki Kobashigawa and Staff Sgt. Allan M. Ohata.
Before being drafted into the Army, Thomas gets married to Frances Fusako Masumoto in 1940, and they have a daughter.

Description
An account of the resource
Taba continues with his time after he had joined the Army. After taking a train to Mississippi, he would begin his basic training at Camp Shelby, learning to be an assistant machine gunner. While there, he would join the 100th Infantry Battalion and really see the segregation of the south first hand. Once his training was complete, he would then be shipped out, where he would meet the others in the 100th Battalion for the first time. The ship would convoy to North Africa where he would stay for about a month until shipping out to Italy. In Italy, Taba would be assigned to the Headquarters company and sent to a team that would be in charge of mine sweeping so that tanks could get through without harm. He explains that process and his experience when a stone wall crumbled and he was buried alive for about five minutes until someone was able to dig him out. Next, he talks about various other war experiences, including the various battles that he took part in.

Description
An account of the resource
Taba begins the interview talking about his family background and his parents coming over to Hawaii from Okinawa. Growing up in Hawaii, he was able to attend Japanese language school and have a close family relationship, including a handful of siblings. He would attend high school and play football while working to help his family out. Shortly after high school, the attacks on Pearl Harbor occurred and things would change from that point on. Even while at the movies, he would experience small bouts of discrimination, being called "Jap" for the first time in his life. He would then join the Army and join the 442nd, first training at Schofield Barracks and then getting shipped to the mainland to begin basic training at Camp Shelby in Mississippi.
