Description
An account of the resource
Takehara discusses his responsibilities and experiences as a medic during combat. He would end up treating a lot of soldiers' wounds and seeing a lot of casualties as he would run around through combat to those in need. Along with that, he also speaks about the other war time experiences he had, such as taking in a prisoner of war and involvement in the Lost Battalion. Next, he discusses the medical procedure when somebody gets wounded and talking to families of soldiers who were killed during the war. His brother would serve in the Army as well but in the Pacific Theater, ending up with a lot of medals and awards for his duty. After this, Takehara shows off his uniform and the medals and awards pinned to it. Next, he talks about his reaction to the end of the war and his return to Hawaii, where he would resume normal civilian life. He would head back to Iowa to complete his degree and stayed on as a graduate assistant, where he met his future wife. He would jump around the United States before settling down in Houston, Texas.

Description
An account of the resource
Ohta begins the interview with an introduction and talking shortly about his family background, his parents being from Maui. Next, he talks about what it was like to grow up in Hawaii up until the Pearl Harbor attacks. After that, he would join the Army, heading to Mississippi to begin his basic training with the 442nd Regiment. He would experience the segregation of the south and conflict between Hawaiian and mainland soldiers before being shipped out to Europe. He would be involved in many different combat battles, including Bruyeres-Biffontaine, the Lost Battalion and the Gothic Line. Throughout this time, he would receive one wound, on his hand. Following the Gothic Line push, Germany would surrender and he would be shipped back to the mainland and then back to Maui. There, he would begin his career at a bank and start his family. Next, he discusses more of his experiences throughout basic training and overseas, including a discussion on the difference in weapons between America and Germany.

Description
An account of the resource
Yamasaki begins the interview talking about how his family came from Japan to Hawaii. As his parents were born in Hawaii, he was a sansei, and would speak very little Japanese at home. His father would help to get him into a private elite school, called Punahou School, which helped him get acquainted with a more diverse population than most Hawaiians. He would have some influence of Japanese culture from both his grandparents and the Japanese language school that he attended after regular school. Next, he talks about Pearl Harbor and how he came to join the Army after a year at the University of Hawaii. He would be inducted at Schofield Barracks before being sent to Mississippi to begin his basic training at Camp Shelby. There, he would train as a machine gunner for I Company until he was shipped out to Europe.

Description
An account of the resource
Murakami discusses his part in the Gothic Line push. Once they completed that mission, he was able to head back to the United States. After arriving in New York, the regiment learned they would be flown back to California, which left them in high spirits. Unfortunately, after stopping in Texas, the plane crashed and multiple passengers died, leaving many of the soldiers in the hospital and unable to go home as originally planned. After 17 days in the hospital, Murakami was able to go to Camp Beale where he would be discharged and take a boat back to Hawaii. There, he was able to reunite with his family and eventually marry his high school sweetheart. Finally, he discusses his family including great grandchildren, and a message for future generations.

Description
An account of the resource
Continuing Murakami's recollection of his Army experience, he discusses the basic training at Camp Shelby, where he was put into the Headquarters regiment. During this time, there was a lot of fighting between the Hawaiian and Mainland soldiers, which caused Earl Finch to take a group of Hawaiian soldiers to Camp Rohwer to show them what the mainland boys were dealing with. Next, after seeing racial segregation in the South, the 442nd was shipped overseas to Naples, Italy. When arriving in Civitaveccia, the soldiers was immediately thrown into combat where Murakami began laying land lines for his switchboards. Next, he discusses multiple war experiences, including the Lost Battalion and the Gothic Line push.

An account of the resource
Kimura would graduate from high school at the young age of 16 and would move out on his own to Waimea in Kauai. He would continue playing baseball and football, but would also work as a carpenter. Next, while practicing for an upcoming baseball game, he would hear about the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Not long after that, he would volunteer for the Army, hearing about the 100th Infantry already drafted. He would head to Schofield Barracks in Honolulu and then to Camp Shelby on the mainland to begin his basic training. While in the south, he immediately saw the racial segregation, at times being called names and being asked to sit at the back of the bus. He would also travel around while taking passes, seeing places like New Orleans and Chattanooga. He also talks about the conflicts between mainland and Hawaiian soldiers and seeing the American concentration camps. Next, he discusses the german weapons that he would have to learn about before being shipped to Europe. He would ship out to Naples in Italy but would first take a furlough and see New York City.

An account of the resource
Janet Brown Hardwick Brown is the oldest of the Hardwick sisters. She is married to Phil Brown and has three children and grandchildren. Susan Hardwick is the youngest sister and is a real estate agent for 30 years. The Hardwick sisters start a journey that leads them to learn about the 442nd and the heroes that save their father, Bill Hardwick of the 36th Infantry Regiment.
Susan Hardwick discusses that her father, Bill, did not take about the war experience often. She would hear the war stories from her mother. Bill has a lot of admiration and respect for the Japanese Americans. At a young age, Susan remembers her father would be saddened if he hears discriminative remarks about the Nisei veterans. Susan recalls a story about a Nisei veteran and a barbershop.
Janet Hardwick encourages anyone to serve their country if they have an opportunity no matter the situation. She feels we should be proud of the Nisei veterans because they opened the doorway for all Americans. Learn as much as you can about the Nisei legacy. Susan says because of her father, they are introduced to the 442nd. The 442nd embodies tolerance, respect, and gratitude that we should all have in the face of adversity.
Moreover, the Hardwick sister believes oral histories are a learning tool. Susan adds that oral histories are a continuous duty that all veterans should do after the war to keep the story alive.

Description
An account of the resource
Janet Brown Hardwick and Susan Hardwick come from a family of men who serves their country. Their great-grandfather serves in the Civil War, and their father, Bill Hardwick, is part of the 36th Infantry Regiment during World War Two. Following their father's passing, the Hardwick sisters embark on a journey to thank the heroes who save their father, in the Lost Battalion rescue.
The journey being when Janet watches a television special on the 442nd. After researching, Janet corresponds with a Nisei veteran, and Janet's thank you letter becomes published.
On a holiday trip, the Hardwick sisters visit the Japanese American Memorial in Washington D.C. and leave a photo of their father with a thank you note. This gesture opens the door to networking with more Nisei veterans and learning about the Nisei legacy. Furthermore, an invite to the 442nd reunion.
Although Janet and Susan's father did not discuss his wartime experience much, he did express his gratitude and admiration for the 442nd. He says the 442nd are the only ones who can get the job done and rescued the Lost Battalion.
Janet and Susan talk about sharing the history of the Japanese Americans with their family and future generations. The heroic actions of the 442nd save their father's life and gave them valuable time together before his passing.

An account of the resource
Ray Wells's interview is combined with Julian Quayles.
Wartime is a heavy discussion. However, in this interview, Ray Wells and Julian Quayles talk about the lighter side of World War Two. Both men highlight areas of v-mail, homecoming, and post-war life.
The USO and V-mail bring high morale to the troops during wartime. Ray and Julian both agree that V-mail is an important aspect of the soldiers' morale. Ray says V-mail is like a piece of their home. There are not many opportunities to write correspondences if you are on the frontline. If you are in the hospital, you have more of a chance to write letters. If you are injured, the Red Cross can assist you with your correspondence(s).
When Ray is in the hospital, he recalls helping another soldier write his correspondence. Both Ray and Julian receive correspondence from their mother while overseas. Ray and Julian say there is censorship when you write your correspondences. You are limited in what you can say.
Both Ray and Julian discuss their homecoming to the mainland. After World War Two, Julian pursues his law degree and starts his practice. Julian remains active in the Military and retires as a Colonel JAG Officer. As for Ray, he goes to Okinawa, Japan, and the Korean War. Moreover, each man becomes a father and have grandchildren.

Description
An account of the resource
Ray Wells's interview is combined with Julian Quayles
Julian Quayles discusses what happens after he escapes from the German soldiers. Julian with another Officer, finds shelter on an Italian civilian's property until they can rejoin the American lines. Julian does not reunite with the American troops until mid-October.
Ray Wells and his Company are training until their next action. They move to Mount Rotondo. Ray discusses the attitudes of the civilians. Food is scarce during the wartimes.
At Mount Rotondo, everyone in Ray's squad is hit by artillery fire. Ray is hospitalized for several weeks. During his recovery, he meets General MacArthur and Hideichi Shimabukuro from the 100th.
When Ray receives news about his brother, he goes AWOL but returns to the frontlines. After recovery, Ray attaches himself to G Company (rifle company) and goes to San Pietro, Italy.
During this time, Julian and his troops are in Monte Cassino. After Monte Cassino, Julian is Battalion S3 (Plans and Training Officer). He is promoted a few more times throughout the European Theater when the higher officers are killed in action.
Even though there are many losses of soldiers from combat, Julian says the morale remains the same. Replacements are brought in to help with the men killed in action or wounded in action.
In Rome, Julian remembers there is a lot of marching. The Germans have set up a few diversions for the American soldiers such as roadblocks and Middle Eastern soldiers to help on the ground. Julian recalls before Monte Cassino, he is sitting on the mountain and watching two British Army soldiers.
Both Ray and Julian discuss the German weapons, mines, and observations planes.

Description
An account of the resource
Julian Quayles' interview is combined with Ray Wells.
Moreover, each man becomes a father and has grandchildren.

Description
An account of the resource
Julian Quayles' interview is combined with Ray Wells.
