Description
An account of the resource
Asato continues talking about his first combat while in Italy, at the Rome-Arno area. He talks about being able to see Florence from a distance and the tree bursts that could kill a soldier instantly. While there, he would get sick and end up in a hospital, joining instead, a chemical mortar company where he would be the only Japanese American in the unit. Soon after, he would hear of the end of the war while in Germany and head back to the United States. After stopping first in Boston and San Francisco, he would get back to Hawaii and get discharged at Fort Kamehameha. He would rest for a short time at home and do some labor work before heading back into the Army for the Korean War. He talks about the combat there, and moving up to sergeant first class, in charge of one of the squads. He would once again return to Hawaii, but this time with his wife, whom he met in Japan. He talks about his family, including children and grandchildren and talks about picking up some war artifacts before he came back, including a German helmet.

Description
An account of the resource
Murakami discusses his part in the Gothic Line push. Once they completed that mission, he was able to head back to the United States. After arriving in New York, the regiment learned they would be flown back to California, which left them in high spirits. Unfortunately, after stopping in Texas, the plane crashed and multiple passengers died, leaving many of the soldiers in the hospital and unable to go home as originally planned. After 17 days in the hospital, Murakami was able to go to Camp Beale where he would be discharged and take a boat back to Hawaii. There, he was able to reunite with his family and eventually marry his high school sweetheart. Finally, he discusses his family including great grandchildren, and a message for future generations.

Description
An account of the resource
Continuing Murakami's recollection of his Army experience, he discusses the basic training at Camp Shelby, where he was put into the Headquarters regiment. During this time, there was a lot of fighting between the Hawaiian and Mainland soldiers, which caused Earl Finch to take a group of Hawaiian soldiers to Camp Rohwer to show them what the mainland boys were dealing with. Next, after seeing racial segregation in the South, the 442nd was shipped overseas to Naples, Italy. When arriving in Civitaveccia, the soldiers was immediately thrown into combat where Murakami began laying land lines for his switchboards. Next, he discusses multiple war experiences, including the Lost Battalion and the Gothic Line push.
