When Morimoto returns to Hilo, Hawaii, he goes to Honolulu to get radio parts for work. Since moving back to Hawaii, there are two tidal waves that change the course of Morimoto's career opportunities. A tidal wave in 1956 a damages Morimoto's home along with his radio equipment and a tidal wave in 1960. This tidal wave affects Morimoto's Brother's business and Morimoto and his wife stays to help rebuild the auto paint shop. Morimoto brief describes meeting his wife at a social gathering.

Even though he experience of war haunt him he recalls the best part of war is seeing the historical buildings and sites in Italy. One especially is the Cathedral.
Morimoto does not share his war time experiences with his family or wife, he shares advice for the future generations and the importance of oral history. He also shares momentum from the war such as emblems, photographs, letters, documents, and awards.

Morimoto describes hearing the news about the war ending and returning home on the Liberty ship. The travel on the Atlantic Ocean takes 19 days. The ship lands in Newport News, Virginia and Morimoto is happy to see a welcome home sign and welcome home dinner. The dinner consist of turkey and ham.

Before getting discharge in Honolulu Army Separation Center Wahu, he receives a pass to go home to see his family. The first person he sees is his Brother. Morimoto finds it hard back to civilian life due to the war images in his mind. He says time is the best healer. During his healing time he helps his Brother at the auto paint shop and goes to trade school.

The next campaign is Bruyeres. At this time Morimot's rank is a squad leader and he says there is not a lot of action during this battle. Following next is the Lost Battalion Rescue. Morimoto recalls the cut down in numbers of troop and the company arriving with 17 riflemen plus several weapon platoon. The number of soldiers are affected by weather conditions or trench foot. Morimoto suffers from frost bite. In the campaign, 800 soldiers are wounded or killed to save 200-300 Lost Battalion.

In the Champagne Campaign, the unit is depleted and the troops are waiting for replacements. While they are waiting in Nice, France the soldiers either go to bars or dancing, Morimoto recalls the Gothic Line and getting injured from motor shell attack. He did not need to go to the hospital because it is a flesh wound on the arm. After the Gothic Line is broken, it is the last defense for the German soldiers. During wartime, Morimoto corresponds with his family when he is able to. However, he cannot write much because he does not want to concern them.

From battle field, Morimoto gets souvenirs such as pistol, compass, and binoculars German owned. ]]>

Hattiesburg becomes an active town when Camp Shelby brings in the soldiers. Morimoto finds training rough due to physical size compared to other soldiers. On his spare time at basic training, he look forward to going to Hattiesburg for the fried chicken .

In June, Morimoto goes overseas to the Europe Theater. He has different thoughts about war compare to when he volunteered for service. Morimoto lands in Naples and sees the destruction of the city. Morimoto recalls the campaigns he fights in Rome-Arno; Naples Foggia; Champagne Campaign; Gothic Line; and Bruyeres. The most memorable one for him is the Luciano battle because his Sargent gets injured and Morimoto is saved by his K ration.]]>

Growing up, Morimoto has household chores. He would walk every morning to go buy wood to heat up the water for bathing and cooking. In the kitchen there is only a stove. There is no refrigerator or electric water heater. Morimoto recalls having a wooden box and a block of ice that would act like a fridge. His family does not have a fridge until after the war.

Morimoto as a child enjoys outdoor activities. He plays sport with his friends and using everyday items to use as sport equipment. For football, the league is sponsor by the County Recreation. Morimoto would play barefoot and use the skin of big grapefruits as shoulder pads. For baseball, he uses an old kendo mask for the catchers' position and tennis balls because they are lighter in weight. The sport Morimoto enjoys the most is watching sumo matches. In high school, Morimoto hobby is photography but does not pursue his interest. One regret he has is not taking photos of his childhood neighborhood because it is destroyed by a tidal wave.

Morimoto recalls given the nickname Jonah by his brother and people refer him as Jonah rather than calling him by his Japanese name. When asked what culture Morimoto identities with more, American or Japanese, Morimoto says Japanese. ]]>

As a child, Morimoto would sell fish and make allowances. He describe all the food he can buy for $.25. This included candy too. In the Morimoto household, the children and parents did not communicate as much. Morimoto theorizes it is due to the kids speaks English and the Parents speaks Japanese. Also another reason is his Parents have no time to learn English because the are working to support the six children. After the war, Morimoto learns that his oldest sister is adopted. He says he does not know much about his family history because there is a lack of communication.

Morimoto recalls fishing since live next to the Bay. At the Bay, his family lives in a unit that has two bedrooms and a kitchen. Other activities Morimoto enjoys are going to the park and playing football at local club. He shares sport rival stories and making homemade weapon toys. ]]>
