Fujikawa continues talking about the surrender ceremony that he was on a committee for. He talks about what it was like being on the HMS Victory during the ceremony and what his duties were during that time.
At this point in the interview, Misuo is joined by his wife Miyo who gives an introduction of herself and how they originally met. After that, she talks about how her whereabouts during the attacks on Pearl Harbor They would be separated after this, as one family went to Rohwer concentration camp and the other went to Amache concentration camp. She would move to Minnesota while Misuo was at Fort Snelling and work in a beauty shop, but would move to Chicago when she became pregnant. She would stay there until the birth and then move down to Washington DC, corresponding with Misuo nearly every day.

An account of the resource
Fujikawa talks about his time training at Fort Snelling, studying Japanese language with the Military Intelligence Service (MIS). He briefly talks about his marriage background, his wife moving to Minnesota while he was at Fort Snelling. After this, he would be shipped out to Australia to begin his assignment there. However, due to the imminent end of the war, he would end up not working a lot. He would end up seeing some Japanese prisoners of war during his time in Brisbane though. After this, he would be shipped over to Japan, where he would work as a translator of documents and would be part of a surrender committee. He also talks about what it was like to arrive in Japan and see the flattened destruction from the war.

Fujikawa talks more about growing up in Los Angeles, specifically about the time that he spent in the Japanese language school. In regular school, he would take an interest in sciences, such as botany and would face some discrimination throughout his time there. Next, he talks about being at the produce market working when he heard of the attacks on Pearl Harbor and the signing of the executive order 9066 that followed. He would be forced to pack up his belongings and head to Santa Anita racetrack before taking a train to Granada (Amache) Concentration Camp in Colorado. In order to escape the camps, he decided to join the Army, and would head to Fort Snelling in Minnesota to begin his Military Intelligence Service Language courses.

Shimoyama talks about basic training at Fort Snelling for Military Intelligence Service (MIS), and his assignments in Seoul, Korea translating Korean newspaper articles. He then talks about the differences between Korean and Japanese language, discusses the end of the war and Japan’s surrender, and his experiences in Manila. He also talks about receiving a furlough to visit relatives but then having to go to the hospital due to scabies. Lastly, Shimoyama talks about going to UCLA because of the G.I. Bill, and becoming a chemist.

Shimoyama discusses his father including talking about helping his father with his gardening business after school. He then talks about his mother and siblings; and recalls spending time on Hollywood Boulevard as a child and being neighbors with John Aiso and his family. He also talks about visiting Japan as a child, attending Japanese language school, and his whereabouts during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Shimoyama then talks about his family’s forced removal to Heart Mountain incarceration camp and his life and the living conditions there. Lastly, Shimoyama talks about working as a sugar beet farmer and factory worker before returning to Heart Mountain and volunteering for Military Intelligence Service (MIS).
