Umeda talks a little bit more about his time in Seoul, translating newspapers during the occupation. He would return to Japan, where they gave him the option of staying in the military or heading home and a friend convinced him to go home and complete his college education. He would return to the United States, getting discharged at Camp Beale and settling in the Watsonville area after attending UC San Francisco. After this, he talks about his marriage background and the family that came from the marriage.

Umeda continues to talk about his language training at Fort Snelling with the Military Intelligence Service (MIS), talking about the living conditions of the barracks and being classified as a translator. After this, he would be sent overseas, first landing in Manila, where he would see Japanese prisoners of war for the first time. Next, he would be shipped to Japan, landing in Tokyo and seeing the devastation of the fire bombs. He discusses the atomic bombs and traveling through Japan. He would be sent to Korea for a short time as well, translating newspapers in Seoul.

Umeda talks more about the Gila River Concentration Camp and the living conditions in Arizona, surrounded by barbed wire but being able to go outside of the camp occasionally. He would end up leaving the camp and working at a cannery and living in a boarding house in the midwest. Then, he would begin trade school at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, working at a bakery after class. While working, he would receive his draft notice, and head to Camp Blanding for his basic training. However, he would be rerouted to Fort Snelling to begin his time in the Military Intelligence Service (MIS).

Umeda talks more about the aftereffects of Pearl Harbor, as the Army no longer accepted Nisei soldiers, they would be reclassified as enemy aliens. Shortly after, they would be forced to evacuate their home, taking their only what they could carry and leaving the rest of the vineyard with a neighbor to look after and harvest. They would head to a train depot in Sanger and head to Gila River concentration camp. He talks about the living conditions of the camp, including the barbed wire and the wages of the various jobs. His family would again be involved with farming and he would also be involved as a math teacher.
