Description
An account of the resource
Konoshima discusses the reasons for attending University of Wisconsin after the camps and his sister also attending. Next, he speaks about the effects of being born in Japan and not having the same rights that even Japanese Americans had, such as joining the army. After this, he goes back to the Pearl Harbor attacks and the effect that it had on he and his family. As his family leased a farm, they had to figure out what to do with it once the Executive Order 9066 came around. They would pack up their things and begin their time at Santa Anita race track, living in a horse stable. Shortly after that, they would be moved to Wyoming, to the Heart Mountain concentration camps. They would be assigned to a barrack and be kept inside the barbed wire fencing with nothing to do except work and watch friends get drafted into the Army, and in some cases killed in the war.

An account of the resource
After the evacuation, Kodama and his family would head to Santa Anita race track where they would spend some time in a temporary detention center, where they would have almost no privacy. It was there, that he would meet his first wife, who taught him how to dance. He also talks about riots that also occurred and the restrictions they had because of that. After this, they would be moved to Heart Mountain concentration camp, where living conditions were also poor and the weather was cold. As he became angry towards the Army, he decided to become a no-no boy but would later decide he would only join if drafted. Later, while working in Chicago, he would be drafted into the Army and begin his basic training at Camp Blanding.

Description
An account of the resource
Sakamoto continues to talk about his time at Heart Mountain concentration camp in Wyoming. He would work there as a swamper, sneaking out of the camp sometimes to hike the nearby mountains or play in the ravines. He would later be presented with the famous loyalty questionnaire in which he and his family would answer no-no, which would land them all in Tule Lake concentration camp. While there, the security was much heavier and the residents would pass the time by playing baseball. He talks about hearing about the 100th Infantry and 442nd Regiment and the sacrifices they were making. Next, he would hear about the end of the war and be admitted to leave the camp.

Description
An account of the resource
Mary Yamada shares a photograph of herself during a bivouac at Fort Dicks. She describes her experience at Fort Dicks, where she treated different patients. She mentions that she was often the first Japanese American that people encountered -- an article was written about her for being the first Japanese American teacher at a high school. During the war, her family was relocated to the Heart Mountain incarceration camp. She knows little of how her family felt during their stay there because they rarely corresponded with her through letters. She also describes the different military decorations she was awarded during her military service.
