Description
An account of the resource
Fujimoto talks about his family background and his childhood, growing up in southern California. Next, he speaks about his self identity and what it was like to grow up being a Japanese American, amongst a neighborhood of caucasians. Next, the attacks on Pearl Harbor occurred, followed by the Executive Order 9066 and it's effects. Fujimoto remembers that he thought it was unjust to have this happen, especially the camps, but in retrospect, it may have been for the best. He and his family would be evacuated to the Tulare assembly center and then the Gila River concentration camp. He would then volunteer for the Army and join the Military Intelligence Service (MIS), and be sent overseas to the Philippines where he would begin his assignment interrogating prisoners of war. Next, he talks about his time after the occupation, going to USC and getting his degree in civil engineering, which he would go into after graduating. He would then settle down, marry and have children.

Description
An account of the resource
Sato continues his recollection of being an interpreter and interrogator in the Philippines. When arriving there, he would immediately notice the devastation and flatness that the war had caused. He talks about the children there seeing Japanese American soldiers but thinking they were Japanese soldiers. He would be involved with the war crimes trials, interrogating witnesses. Sato discusses various important people during the war, including a teacher from Hawaii and a spy for the American Army. After the Philippines, he would head back to Tokyo to get his discharge from the Army, but stayed around and would take a job interpreting and interrogating as a civil servant. He would also be involved with the Korean War as a civil servant, interrogating Korean soldiers that spoke Japanese. Then, due to the GI Bill, he would head back to Hawaii to begin college at the University of Hawaii. After this, he gives a background of his wife's family and how they came to meet.

From there he was assigned to work in New York, translating words for a dictionary that the Army was putting together. It was there that he also had a piece of the Manhattan Project, writing up the treaty. Also during this time, he was received a controversial piece of propaganda that nearly got him in trouble. Fortunately, he was not found guilty and went on to be an instructor at Camp Savage before getting shipped out to Manila. In Manila, he worked as a translator right next door to General MacArthur until he received new orders to head to Japan.

Description
An account of the resource
Ito discusses the aftermath of Pearl Harbor and the pressures of war hysteria. It was during this time that he was drafted into the Army and selected for Military Intelligence Service (MIS). He was sent to Fort Snelling to take Japanese language courses, spending hours at a time studying after class ended. Next, he was sent to Fort McClellan in Alabama, where he would experience the discrimination and segregation of black civilians and soldiers. After that, he would be sent back to Fort Snelling before being shipped overseas to begin interpreting in Philippines. Once he arrived in Manila, he immediately noticed the stark poverty throughout the city and was even told to not feed the civilians. He would begin his work, and would be put on assignment to interpret the war crimes trials, including cases such as General Yamashita and General Homma. From there, Ito would be transferred to Japan.

Description
An account of the resource
Hayashi begins the interview speaking about his family background, being born in Denver and what it was like to grow up there. As a child, he would have the chance to live in Japan and would do so for two years, learning all about the Japanese culture and language that would aid him for the rest of his life. He discusses going to Fort Lupton High School and also attending Japanese language school at the same time. Next, he talks about hearing news of the Pearl Harbor attacks on the radio and wanting to join the Air Force, but was rejected. Instead, he would attend the Colorado School of Mines, studying electrical engineering. However, later he would end up getting drafted into the Army and being placed with the Military Intelligence School (MIS). He would report to Fort Snelling and be placed in the advanced class, where after just six months, he would be shipped out to Manila to begin his assignment translating and interpreting. He discusses working in both Manila and Australia, and being involved with the War Crimes Trials and interrogating prisoners of war.

Description
An account of the resource
Following his language school training, Hamashige went to continued his training, going to basic, then to Fort Snelling for interpreting training before being sent out to the Philippines for his first assignment. As the war was coming to an end, the work was light and he was shipped back out to Yokohama where he would see the damage done to Japan during the war. Again having light work, he was able to explore the surrounding areas, seeing relatives, relaying messages for those in need and visiting Hiroshima. Next, he was moved to Fukushima, where they would take over a power plant. After his discharge, Hamashige decided to further pursue his education, attending the University of Hawaii, and then Bowling Green State University before moving to New York to get his master's degree from NYU. It was there that he had trouble finding a job, although qualified, until he met the family of the controller of Chase Manhattan Bank. He instantly received a job and worked there until his retirement.

Description
An account of the resource
After spending time at the Military Intelligence Service Language School at Camp Savage, Tanakatsubo was sent overseas to begin interrogating in the Aleutian Islands where the Japanese were occupying some islands. It was there at the Battle of Attu that he first began his work searching bodies for documents that could help the US Army. After that, he was moved to Kiska where his team quickly realized that the Japanese had evacuated the island. Next, he was sent back to the United States for a short time until he was sent back overseas to Brisbane in Australia, where he found out that his father had passed away in the camps. Having this grief, he decided to join the front lines and was sent to New Guinea, then the Philippines and finally, Japan for interrogation work after the war had ended. It was there that he saw the hardships of the Japanese and decided to help a family he met, feeding them and making sure the children stayed out of trouble. Having more than 140 points, Tanakatsubo decided to head back to the United States, where he would discharge from the Army and head to dental school in Cleveland. While in the midwest, he moved to Chicago and got married and started a family that now includes three children and nine grandchildren.
