Description
An account of the resource
Kuida discusses his path following the family's move to Utah. As his sister was sick, his family ended up moving closer to Salt Lake City, where Kuida would start attending classes at the University of Utah. After about a year at the university, he was drafted into the army, figuring that he would be a part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team as a replacement. He and his brother would head to Camp Kilmer in Florida to begin their training and await their shipment to Europe. His brother would end up going first, and Kuida and a large convoy would follow months later. They would arrive in Le Havre, France and head to Marseille, where they had to be quarantined for measles. Following this, they would be sent to the front lines, where he would see his brother after 4 months of separation. They would, however, have to separate minutes later as Kuida was assigned to join cannon company in Carrara Italy, where he would see his first combat action.

Description
An account of the resource
Ohta begins the interview with an introduction and talking shortly about his family background, his parents being from Maui. Next, he talks about what it was like to grow up in Hawaii up until the Pearl Harbor attacks. After that, he would join the Army, heading to Mississippi to begin his basic training with the 442nd Regiment. He would experience the segregation of the south and conflict between Hawaiian and mainland soldiers before being shipped out to Europe. He would be involved in many different combat battles, including Bruyeres-Biffontaine, the Lost Battalion and the Gothic Line. Throughout this time, he would receive one wound, on his hand. Following the Gothic Line push, Germany would surrender and he would be shipped back to the mainland and then back to Maui. There, he would begin his career at a bank and start his family. Next, he discusses more of his experiences throughout basic training and overseas, including a discussion on the difference in weapons between America and Germany.

While in Bruyeres, Tsuji would be wounded in action and talks about the intricacies of that. He also talks about his time in Marseille and being able to take a pass to explore the local shops and find that the black market was alive and well. He would find newly packaged toothpaste at a local cosmetics shop and see off-branded cigarettes often. Next, he talks more about how he was wounded, being in the Vosges Mountains, he would be in his foxhole, when he felt a huge explosion behind him and his body flew through the air, losing sensation in the lower half of his body. At first fearing that he was decapitated, the feeling soon came back into his body and he would be moved off to get a surgical procedure done. He would be shipped back to the United States to be discharged, but talks about how he still has shrapnel in his body from that explosion.

Description
An account of the resource
Yamashita talks more about his war experiences, including going through France, taking heavy casualties and complete darkness in the Vosges Mountains. There, he would see the power of the German snipers and the courage of the non-commissioned officers. Next, he talks about the wound he got while in combat near Bruyeres and would be hospitalized for over a month before rejoining his company at the French Riviera. After this, he talks about the bond of people that have gone into combat together and how his childhood helped him prepare for the Army. He also speaks about the courage that he had and how it became second-nature to have to shoot at enemies.

Description
An account of the resource
In this segment, Uyemura talks about the military campaigns he participated in during the war. He talks about his experiences in Italy and France and also describes the Champagne Campaign. Another campaign Uyemura took part in was Bruyeres, which he states was rough and strange. He talks about the interactions he had with the civilians in both campaigns. Uyemura also talks about the Lost Battalion and the rescue mission he participated in to free them. When the war ended, he was stationed at an airport where a POW camp was set up, and he recalls seeing German prisoners surrendering and how he and other servicemen sold the Germans fruit. Uyemura also talks about the time he was injured by a piece scrap metal and receiving the Purple Heart in the Hospital. We catch a glimpse of the Medal and end with him expressing his reaction to World War Two ending.
