An account of the resource
Yano talks more about his war experiences, including his involvement in the Lost Battalion and the food that he would enjoy in Europe. He next talks about the end of the war and his plan to go to occupied Japan to see his mother, but upon returning to California, he found out she had passed away. He would continue to be in the Army reserves but in the meantime, would join his father on the farm, eventually buying the land from him. After this, he talks about his marriage and family background and gives a message for future generations to continue the knowledge of the Nisei veterans. Finally, Yano shows off some of the artifacts he received from the war, including a senninbari and a Nazi medallion.

Description
An account of the resource
Yano continues to talk about his basic training at Camp Shelby, seeing some friction between the Hawaiian and mainland soldiers. He also talks about seeing one soldier die during basic training in an accident. Joining E Company, he would be shipped overseas on a liberty ship and landing in Marseille, France. His first combat would be in Bruyeres, where he would see a good friend shot and killed and another friend wounded with shrapnel. He talks about his browning automatic rifle and the excellence of the medics in his unit. After this, he talks about his friendship with Dan Inouye who was part of his platoon and would later end up receiving the Medal of Honor and becoming a senator. During his time in Europe, he would also get a chance to travel, visiting Switzerland and randomly seeing one of his childhood neighbors that ended up with the 34th Division that the 100th Infantry was attached to.

Yano continues to talk about he and his families time at Gila River Concentration Camp and being reclassified for the draft. After this, he talks about the loyalty questionnaire and knowing he would answer yes, yes to the draft questions. He would end up volunteering for the Army shortly after and receiving a senninbari, which was a traditional Japanese stitched belt for luck. He would be sent to Camp Shelby for basic training, and he remarks on the segregation he saw while visiting Hattiesburg, not knowing which bathroom to use and where to sit on the bus. Next, he talks about joining E Company and the relationship between the Hawaiian and mainland soldiers.

Yano continues to talk about his schooling, taking a history class and finding the Constitution and the way the Japanese Americans were being treated was unjust. He would end up throwing the book across the room and leaving the classroom, never to return again. After this, he goes back and talks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor, playing basketball in Lindsay, and seeing the reaction of his father. They would be faced with a lot of restrictions and curfew, seeing a lot of prejudice throughout the process. His family would be evacuated and sent to Gila River Concentration Camp, losing almost all of their personal belongings and leaving the farm to a man that would end up stealing a lot of their produce. After this, he talks about arriving at the camp, and seeing one of his friends from high school working as a military policeman, ignoring Yano.

Yano talks about the values that were passed on to him from his parents, such as "gaman" and not bringing shame to the family name. Next, he talks about his elementary school, including the population, which was mostly caucasian. He would face a little bit of discrimination but would pay no attention to it, continuing on playing basketball and softball. He would also enjoy recreational activities such as obon, youth groups and celebrating New Years. After this, he speaks more about his education and the impactful teachers that helped him along the way. He would go to high school for a short time but wouldn't be able to go to the graduation because of the curfew after Pearl Harbor.

Description
An account of the resource
Yano begins the interview talking about being born and raised in California, playing marbles and hanging out with friends and neighbors. His family would come from Hiroshima, Japan and settle in California, his father as a farm laborer and his mother as a picture bride. Due to alien land laws, they would not be able to purchase land but would become sharecroppers and put the land in the children's names. He talks about memories with his mother and father and lists his brothers. During his childhood, he would also attend Japanese language school, learning about Japanese culture and values.

Description
An account of the resource
In this segment, Frank Kimura introduces himself and his hometown of Fresno. He also talks about his family and how his parents' had a difficult journey to the United States. As Kimura talks about his family and growing up on a farm, we learn he is close with his brother and mother, but distant from his father. Kimura also talks about life on the farm and his experiences in both English school and Japanese language school. To him, English school involved more fun, but Japanese school was strictly learning the language. Home for Kimura was very basic, but he learned values. Interaction with the Japanese families occurred when they came together for New Year's celebrations.
