Yoshino continues his recollection of his time overseas in Japan during the occupation. First, he speaks about the different assignments that he had, working as an overseer for reporting and as an interpreter for officers. Next, he speaks about the free time that he had, including going to hot springs and connecting with his mother's family that lived near Tokyo. Next, he speaks more about the occupation of Japan, including the reason that the occupation went so well throughout his time there. Yoshino speaks briefly about his return to the United States, working as an accountant and his marriage. Finally, he discusses the role of the nisei in the occupation's success.

Yoshino begins the interview speaking about the surrender of Japan and a little about his childhood, growing up as a Japanese American. Next, he talks about spending a small amount of time at Tule Lake Concentration Camp and working at farms and on railroads before volunteering for the Military Intelligence Service (MIS). He heads to Fort Snelling in Minnesota for the language school and is preparing for invasion when instead, the war ends. Yoshino is re-routed to Japan to be part of the occupation. He speaks about arriving in Yokohama and seeing the flat devastation from the firebombs all the way to Tokyo. There, he works as an interpreter and in a typing office, where he would oversee local Japanese girls typing characters for reports. During this time, he also was free to explore Tokyo, including the popular Ginza street.

Nakasone talks more about the occupation of Japan and the recreational activities such as dancing and the caucasian soldiers that were there. Next, he goes back and talks about his language courses at Fort Snelling, learning kanji and the root character system that they have. After that, he talks briefly about meeting his wife while living in Minnesota and the values and teachings that they've tried to pass on to their children and others. After this, he talks about a few different books that he's written as a professor and the contributions of the Asian Americans to the United States.

Nakasone talks about the reactions to the Japanese attacking the Americans at Pearl Harbor and the effect that it had on his family. His parents understood that they would be seen as enemy aliens after the attacks but also understood that their children were Americans and would have to do their duty for their country. At this time, the Japanese language school and regular school would stop and everybody would have to work on the pineapple fields once a week. Next, he talks about receiving his draft notice and his thoughts on going to Japan. He would head to Tokyo and join the Allied Translator and Interpreter Section at the NYK Building. He talks about various experiences, including traveling through Japan and interacting with Japanese civilians. He also talks about what it was like in Japan during the occupation, seeing small food rations for the locals, General MacArthur's leadership and the impact of the Japanese American soldiers.

Nakasone discusses attending Japanese language school and his involvement with Buddhism and judo. After this, he talks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor; living just three miles from Pearl Harbor, he would see firsthand the Japanese zero's flying overhead and seeing the bombs fall and the smoke rise. He also talks about seeing the Japanese prisoners of war and heckling them, while his father was actually taken for a day by the FBI. After this, he would be drafted and attend basic training at Fort McClellan before going to Fort Snelling for language training. He talks about what it was like in Minnesota, attending dances and enduring the cold weather.

Nakasone begins the interview talking about his family background and how his father came from Okinawa to Hawaii to work as a farmer. He talks about what it was like to grow up in Hawaii, including the food he would eat, and growing up during the Great Depression. He remembers being in charge of starting up the ofuro every day for the rest of his family, having 10 siblings in all. He talks more about his family, including all of his siblings and his father making his own sake during Prohibition periods. He also talks about his mother coming over from Japan as a picture bride and working at the Wheeler Air Force Base and Schofield Barracks where she would learn english words.
