Title
Rudy Tokiwa oral history interview, part 7 of 8, June 3, 2001
Description
Rudy Tokiwa describes his experience overseas to fight in the European Theater. After 27 days aboard ship, he and the rest of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team landed in Italy, where they met up with the 100th Infantry Battalion in Rome. He describes his first contact with a German soldier, whom he had to kill him in order to save the advancing 442nd Platoon from an ambush. He looked through the dead German soldier's wallet and found a picture of his three kids -- to this day, he feels regret and guilt for killing those children's father. He goes on to talk about the Rescue of the Lost Battalion and about the unfortunate death of his Kibei assistant during the assault.
