Tsuda talks about his campaign experiences, starting with Anzio, where he would experience his first combat, and was involved in a very difficult barrage in a wheat field. The unit would move up from Anzio to Civitavecchia, and then to Belvedere. Throughout this route, they would be experience combat and experience some casualties, even getting hit with an artillery barrage while crossing a river. Tsuda details the routes of both the 100th Infantry Regiment and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the hardships they faced. He explains which battles were the hardest for him and where he received each of his medals. As his brother was also in the 100th Infantry Regiment, he would also occasionally see him during rest periods. After this, the unit would head to Arno River.

Miyamoto continues his recollection of growing up on Hilo, where his pidgin English was heavy and his normal English was inconsistent. After graduation from high school, he and his family would move to Kalihi on Oahu. It was there that he would see the attacks on Pearl Harbor, thinking that it was just a military maneuver. Shortly after, his uncle would be taken in by the FBI, until after joining the Army, Miyamoto would write a letter to the military government asking for his release. He would be transported to the mainland and taken to basic training at Camp Shelby, as part of the original 442nd Regiment. Next, he talks about his first combat experience, facing discrimination, and seeing his cousin who was fighting with the 100th Regiment.

Oye discusses his first landing in Civitavecchia and the first combat that he saw during the war. He talks about the team that he was with and how they were commanded to put their weapons aside and become litter-bearers to help the medics out. Next, he talks about the various battles that he was involved with including Bruyeres, Lost Battalion and Champagne Campaign. During their free time, he would have somebody drive him into Nice, France where he would be able to relax and drink for a few hours before heading back into battle. While battling cold weather, he would also getting a minor wound, in which a bullet would penetrate his helmet, leaving a hole in it but only grazing his head. He would continue on in combat and would be in Europe all the way until the end for the Gothic Line push. Once completed, the German soldiers retreated and he would be able to head back to the United States, having enough points to do so.

He would first begin his training there before being sent to Camp Crowder to begin training with the Quartermaster Corps, and not being around many Nisei soldiers. Next, he talks about Executive Order 9066 and his parents being sent to the Puyallup assembly center and then Minidoka concentration camp in Idaho. He would be reassigned to training at Camp Carson, then Camp Hale to do office work before finally landing at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. There, he found out about the 442nd Regiment being formed and would become a squad leader. He talks about the maneuvers and Earl Finch, and what it was like to be in the South during that time. After this, he would be sent to Newport News to be shipped out to Europe.

Oda discusses his time in Mississippi, doing his basic training with the 442nd Regiment. There he would marvel at the amount of pine trees and the humidity of the South and would see the color segregation that was evident in the South. He would continue swimming in competitions for the Army, and would even get to compete while overseas in Europe. He also discusses the relationship between the Hawaiian and mainland soldiers. After his basic training, he would be shipped out to Naples, Italy and head up to Civitavecchia where the 442nd was in combat. Being part of the cannon company, Oda and his team didn't take part in much battle, though they would be constantly on the move through Europe. He discusses the black market and going to Bruyeres where the weather was cold and they had to watch for tree bursts. He also talks about how the Americans had inferior weapons, but the manpower was dominant.

Description
An account of the resource
Wada discusses hearing about the death of his father after battling with leukemia, and then going from basic training to overseas. They would go from Camp Patrick Henry on a 30 day trek to Naples, where he would begin his combat. He talks about his war experiences, including the German weapons and shelling, and following orders through the Arno River. He also talks about getting to Marseille, where they would get their first replacements and getting wounded right before the Lost Battalion campaign. Due to a tree burst, he would get shrapnel in three parts of his leg and would immediately walk to the aid station, where they would fly him back to Naples. Next, he talks about seeing casualties and finding out that his brother was in K company.

Rudy Tokiwa describes his experience overseas to fight in the European Theater. After 27 days aboard ship, he and the rest of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team landed in Italy, where they met up with the 100th Infantry Battalion in Rome. He describes his first contact with a German soldier, whom he had to kill him in order to save the advancing 442nd Platoon from an ambush. He looked through the dead German soldier's wallet and found a picture of his three kids -- to this day, he feels regret and guilt for killing those children's father.
