Oda discusses growing up in Stockton, California on a farm before moving to Japan with his mother and brother at his mother's behest. While in Japan, Oda recalls experiences in grammar school with bullies for being American; and attending Koto Gakko and feeling dissatisfied with school after learning about Japanese military propaganda. Oda also discusses his father's life in America while he was in Japan and how his father's Buddhist beliefs influenced him to move back to the United States.
