Description
An account of the resource
Kuida begins the interview by giving brief introduction into his family background and growing up in Gardena, including Japanese language school and household decor. Next, he begins his background on his mother and father, both of whom immigrated from Okayama, Japan. He speaks about his father's journey, jumping from state to state finding different career paths before eventually settling down in Gardena, working in the fertilizing business. With the success of the fertilizing business, his brother and sister were able to attend UCLA and their father would purchase them a brand new bright red Chevy pickup. Next, Kuida talks about friendships he made in Gardena, as well as his high school days, where he attended class with many Japanese Americans.

Description
An account of the resource
Yukio Kawamoto describes the horrors of war that he witnessed during his military experience in the Pacific Theater. He talks about his time in Manila during the Philippine Campaign, and how he was sent on furlough back to the United States. Once he returned to Salt Lake City, he was hired by the War Relocation Authority as a bilingual relocation officer. He helped the Issei and Nisei with relocation activities from the American concentration camps.
