He would also take part in socials and be part of a club called the golden bears. He would attend Roosevelt High School and become close with friends from different backgrounds. After graduation, he would further his education at Los Angeles City College and work at his father&#039;s vegetable market. He discusses his knowledge of Japan and the wars overseas. Shortly after, he would be drafted into the Army and begin his basic training at Camp Roberts.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Miyahara discusses coming back to Japan following his discharge in the United States. Once back, he decided to re-enlist with the Army Air Force, but was sent back to Japan. While there for the third time with the Army, he met his wife but because of immigration laws, would not be able to bring her back to the United States. Miyahara decided to stay in Japan and work as a civilian as a welfare officer, which included collecting taxes for the Japanese government. While working on a political bill to be able to bring his wife over to Japan, she passed away. Next, he talks about the black market, rebuilding the Japanese society and hardships that he witnessed. He also was able to visit his grandfather in Saga, where he would drink strong whiskey and learn about his family. Finally, he talks about the importance of the Nisei linguists during military occupation.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Yoshiro Tokiwa oral history interview, part 3 of 3, October 14, 2007]]></dcterms:title>
    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[At Camp Shelby, Yoshiro Tokiwa describes the living conditions and meals. He leaves Camp Shelby to go to Fort Meade. Yoshiro receives orders to go overseas to join the 442nd.<br />
 <br />
He travels overseas on USS Washington. The voyage takes two weeks for the soldiers to land in Italy.  He could not tell his family where he is going, no letters are permitted. On the ship, he has kitchen police duties.<br />
<br />
When Yoshiro lands in Naples, Italy, Yoshiro goes to Caiazzo,  where the replacement depot is. Yoshiro has training in foreign weapons. At the end of April 1945, and Germany surrenders two days later. <br />
<br />
In Italy, Yoshiro sees his cousin Rudy Tokiwa. Yoshiro&#039;s other cousin Duke Tokiwa (Rudy&#039;s brother) is also overseas but in Germany. <br />
<br />
The war ends, and Yoshiro returns to the United States. He lands in New Jersey and drives his jeep cross country back to California. Along the way, he makes a few stops to visits friends. <br />
<br />
Post-war,  Yoshiro goes to school at San Jose State College and UC Berkeley. He majors in biochemistry. After graduating he works at two labs at the California Department of Health Services. Later he works in different fields dealing with carcinogens. Yoshiro explains the PCD compliance agreement and regulation for the museum exhibiting Military ships. <br />
<br />
Yoshiro is remarried and has four children (two sons from his previous marriage and two step-daughters). Yoshiro is on the Board of Japanese American Service East Bay. This organization helps elderly Japanese Americans. Yoshiro is proud to serve with the 442nd.]]></dcterms:description>

During this time, two of his brothers would be drafted into the Army, one being part of the 45th Infantry and the other in the 442nd Regiment. Next, he talks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor and people getting picked up by the FBI. As the evacuations took place, he would pack up his things and go meet with his family, and head to Santa Anita race track, followed by Rohwer concentration camp in Arkansas. He talks about the poor living conditions there and having no privacy, leading him to volunteer for the Army to escape the camp. He would immediately be accepted and head to Camp Shelby.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Ken Tamura discusses his war experiences in Italy. He says it is scary times, but he is thankful to be alive. Ken believes the Nisei contribution in World War Two will help future generations against discrimination. Ken says he is an American, he has to serve and protect his country.<br />
<br />
When Ken returns home after the war, he is contacted to volunteer for the Pacific. Ken takes the language exam and passes. He reports to Camp Snelling for Japanese Language School for six months. The Military Intelligence Service Language training ends in April, and Ken is sent to Japan. <br />
<br />
Ken discusses the lack of food in Japan. At Camp Zama, Ken is there for three weeks on guard duty. The areas in Japan are burned down and destroyed from the bombing. He describes the differences between what Japan looks like in 1939 and post-war. After Camp Zama, Ken is assigned to Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) in Tokyo, Japan.<br />
<br />
Later Ken is informed to return to the United States. However, Ken takes a civilian job to stay longer in Japan. Ken signs a one-year contract for civilian work. He describes his salary and living conditions as a civilian. ]]></dcterms:description>
