Ishizaki begins the interview with his outlook on the surrender of Japan. As he had previously volunteered for the Army, he was already in Manila, awaiting his shipment to Japan. Once arrived at Atsugi Air Base, he immediately noticed the flat devastation of the country. He would be assigned to a general, interpreting but mostly just relaxing. He again would notice the hardships going on throughout the country, especially those in need of food. He would also go and visit his family in Fukuoka and visit various parts of Japan with a famous actress. After this, he was assigned to inspect Piers for Japanese citizens looking for repatriation. Following this, he was sent back to Tokyo, where he would mostly have free time, hanging out in Shinjuku and traveling some more.

Aki continues to talk about his experience as a prisoner of war on Wake Island. There, he would be treated pretty normally, although there were some casualties and they were guarded by the Japanese Army. He also talks about one incident that was given a death penalty for a POW. From there, they would be shipped overseas to Sasebo, Japan, and when arriving there, would be in very cold weather. He talks about his mentality during these times, never fearing his life and just making sure he survived because he knew that the United States would end up winning the war. He talks about the other prisoners of war that he knew, some not having the same fighting spirit that he had, while others were from various places in Asia. After this, he speaks about the food that they ate and getting wooden shoes made from another POW. Next, he speaks about how he would ask people to find out about how the war was going and find out where they were located, even being able to see in the far distance the Battle of the Midway. After this, they would be moved to Fukuoka to work on a runway and then to a coal mine.

Ito discusses the aftermath of Pearl Harbor and the pressures of war hysteria. It was during this time that he was drafted into the Army and selected for Military Intelligence Service (MIS). He was sent to Fort Snelling to take Japanese language courses, spending hours at a time studying after class ended. Next, he was sent to Fort McClellan in Alabama, where he would experience the discrimination and segregation of black civilians and soldiers. After that, he would be sent back to Fort Snelling before being shipped overseas to begin interpreting in Philippines. Once he arrived in Manila, he immediately noticed the stark poverty throughout the city and was even told to not feed the civilians. He would begin his work, and would be put on assignment to interpret the war crimes trials, including cases such as General Yamashita and General Homma. From there, Ito would be transferred to Japan.
