Muranaka finds himself at home in Honolulu when the Pearl Harbor attacks occurred, which he recalls hearing a loud noise and seeing a black smoke cloud in the distance. He hitchhikes back to Schofield Barracks and is given a uniform and gun and told to be ready for his assignment. After basic training, he learns that he will be sent to language school to be part of the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and work as an interpreter. He heads to Camp Savage for language training school and then begins his stint overseas, starting with Brisbane, Australia. There, he begins his translations, looking over captured documents and interrogating prisoners of war. He then goes on a series of landings in New Guinea and the Philippines until finally ending with the occupation in Japan. Next, he quickly jumps back into his talk about the Korean War and his landing on Incheon.

Nagano continues his recollection of his time overseas during the war. He talks about his experience in a shell hole and seeing people fish with concussion grenades. He would be an interrogator of prisoners of war while in New Guinea and was then sent to Officer Candidate School. After completion of the school, he would head to the Philippines to begin his assignment as an officer at the General Headquarters. Due to the points system, he was offered a chance to go back home, so he would head to Japan to catch a ship home, he would however, have some trouble in finding one right away. He would end up trying to meet up with his sister in Ibaraki and visiting the town of Zama with friends until he was finally able to head home. He would end up in San Pedro, where his brother would pick him up and he would join the Army Reserves before going out to Minnesota to meet back up with his wife.

Paul Bannai oral history interview, part 3 of 8, September 15, 2002
When Paul Takao Bannai hears the news of Pearl Harbor on December 7, his reaction is to help and defend the United States. Paul's parents support him and encourage him to defend America. By joining the 442nd and serving with the Military Intelligence Service (MIS), Paul shows his patriotism and loyalty to the United States.
After training, Paul goes overseas. In New Guinea, Paul and fifteen Nisei MP and set up a POW camp. His job is to interview the POWs. The next step for General MacArthur is to set up the next landing spot in the Philippines.
General MacArthur's next landing is Leyte Islands. Paul and the MP set up the POW camp for interrogation. Paul recalls the capture of a Japanese sergeant, and he gives the locations of the cannons fired at night. Besides the POWs intel, Paul's team gets the radio signal of the Japanese soldiers and hears their conversations. Paul recalls the Japanese Navy attack and saving the Japanese soldiers from the ship.
Later, Paul receives orders to go to Australia and join the Australian Army unit for translation. Paul and the Australian Army travel to Borneo because there are still many Japanese troops in that area. Paul remembers a case of interrogating a Japanese soldier in the hospital who is a Nisei drafted into the Japanese Army.
In Borneo, there are snipers, and Paul is assigned guards for protection. One of Paul's guards is shot by a sniper, and he tries to save him. Paul is awarded a medal from the Australian government. However, that medal is only awarded to Australian soldiers, and Paul returns the medal.
Paul stays in Borneo to assist with the surrendering ceremonies. After the surrender ceremonies, Paul goes to Manila, Philippines, but his unit leaves for Tokyo, Japan. Before going to Tokyo, Paul flies to Okinawa with other soldiers to help them with trade translations. In Tokyo, Paul learns he is promoted to second lieutenant if he serves during the occupation forces. However, Paul turns down his commission. Paul recalls visiting Kyoto to visit relatives.

Ishimoto begins the interview talking about his whereabouts when he first heard of the surrender of Japan. At this time, he was already beginning preparations to move into Japan for scheduled invasions, and therefore, when shipped to Japan, he would begin his time working for the occupational forces. When arriving, he immediately noticed the pure destruction of buildings, and was given an assignment to head to Okinawa. While there, he would speak to Japanese civilians, who would tell him that they had planned to fight until the end for their country and had makeshift weapons ready. After this, he was given an assignment to teach Japanese translations to students. Next, he talks about his various friends that were involved in the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and the campaigns that they were involved with. He talks about how the synergy and contribution of the Nisei is much broader than most people realize. After this, he talks about the difference in seeing Atsugi Air Base at the beginning of the occupation and at the end when he would be sent back home. Ishimoto also talks about Japan's defensive positions before the war ended and his personal identity of being American.

Nobuo Yamashita oral history interview, part 2 of 3, October 6, 2001
In New Guinea, Nobuo "Nob" Yamashita's assignment is to interrogate Prisoners of War (POWs). He says the POWs are happy someone can speak their native language and be treated decently. The goal of interrogating the POWs is to find out their mission and assignments before being captured.
Later Nob prepares for the invasion of Luzon, Philippines. The first target mission is to hit the American GI Prison Camp. In Luzon, there are Filipino guerrillas who have a different tactic with the POWs. Nob says it is difficult to interrogate POWs if they are wounded. It is better to treat the POWs with humanity for them to corporate. In Manila, Nob is hospitalized and meets Mrs. MacArthur.
After the Philippines, Nob goes to Korea. He serves with the Civil Government working on war crime trials. After his Korea Tour, Nob is discharged, January 3, 1946, at Camp McCoy. Post-war, Nob gets married to Dorthy, and they have four children and several grandchildren.

Instead, he would attend the Colorado School of Mines, studying electrical engineering. However, later he would end up getting drafted into the Army and being placed with the Military Intelligence School (MIS). He would report to Fort Snelling and be placed in the advanced class, where after just six months, he would be shipped out to Manila to begin his assignment translating and interpreting. He discusses working in both Manila and Australia, and being involved with the War Crimes Trials and interrogating prisoners of war.

Harry Akune recalls meeting his wife in Chicago after the war. He describes his Japanese language training at the Military Intelligence Service Language School at Camp Savage, where they studied Japanese military language. Half-way through his training, he was sent to Camp Shelby for basic training with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. After completing training, he was sent to Australia to join Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS), where he was assigned to the 33rd Infantry Division stationed in New Guinea. He talks about his experiences working with Japanese prisoners of war.
