Description
An account of the resource
Enoch Kanaya reflects on his time in combat and his squad members.
He said their confidence in each other helped them do their jobs well and they trusted each other.
After the war ended, Enoch was assigned to guard the Prisoners of War (POWs) and various Rest Camps. When Enoch had enough points, he returned to the United States. The 500 men landed in New York, and there was a large homecoming committee with dancing and a parade. Enoch recalls the homecoming parade in Washington DC and receiving the Presidental Unit Citation and the Bronze Star.
Post-war, he attended school at North Western and a Television Institute. Also, Enoch got married to Caroline and has four daughters and two grandchildren. He feels proud to serve with the 442nd. The Issei and Nisei gave their best efforts in World War Two and persevered. They leave a legacy that will be remembered.

Description
An account of the resource
Murakami continues his recollection of the Marysville Temporary Detention Center and the living conditions there. Shortly after that, he and his family were moved to Tule Lake Concentration Camp where tensions were high and at one point they were tear gassed as hostility ran high. Once the war had ended, Murakami was accepted into UC Berkeley and would attend that until he decided to join the Army. It was then that he would head overseas to Japan to work as an interpreter with the 21st Infantry Regiment and the Quartermaster Corps. After about a year he headed back to California to meet up with his wife and attend UCLA where he would complete his dental degree. Next, he would head to Howard University and he would end up staying in the Washington DC area. It was there that he became involved with social activism and continuing to spread the Japanese American legacy, including helping with the Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism During World War II.

Description
An account of the resource
Paul Takao Bannai recalls meeting Ken Nakaoka and working in real estate in Gardena. Ken is active in the community and runs for city council, and Paul himself becomes active. Paul's political career starts when he is the Planning Commissioner. Later he becomes a City Councilman and Assemblyman.
In Gardena, Paul recalls being discriminated against by the Elks Lodge when they would not accept him and Ken Nakaoka as members. In Carson, there is an Elks Lodge chapter, and Paul joins. Paul becomes active in the Elks Lodge to demonstrate that Japanese Americans can be good members and there should be no prejudices.
Paul's motto is to help others. Even though Paul is active in the Republican Party, Paul says he doesn't help just the Republican Party, but he helps people who can do a job for the community. Paul has helped with passing a bill for acupuncture therapy, naming of the highways after Nisei Veterans, and helping Daniel Inouye and others to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Paul feels it is important to remember and honor people.
Paul explains Veterans Affairs is a lot of legislative work called lobbying. Paul is a lobbyist for the Veterans Affairs, a Commander of the Disabled American Veterans, and a National Representative Legislative Representative from California. The goal is to have the President, the Head of the Veterans Administration, and the legislators work to help veterans.
Nisei veterans are important to Paul. He discusses raising funds for monuments at Evergreen, the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC), and the Go For Broke Monument. He also helps raise funds for Japanese American National Museum (JANM). If there is a good project, Paul likes to help and be involved.

Description
An account of the resource
Takusagawa continues his discussion on growing up in Santa Barbara, including the impactful people that he grew up with, helping him to become a more rounded person. Eventually, this guided him to joining the school band, playing the snare drum, which led him to a very special 21 day trip to Washington DC. Following high school, Takusagawa began to figure out a career path, most likely taking over the dry cleaning business after the passing of his father, however, the attacks on Pearl Harbor occurred. As Executive Order 9066 was posted, the early relationships with neighborhood friends worked in his favor, as his family was able to store their furniture in their homes. Next, he and his family headed to Tulare Temporary Detention Center, where conditions were crude and his family was forced to live in a horse stall.

Description
An account of the resource
Barney Hajiro recalls the locals of Bruyeres and Biffontaine were friendly and nice. However, they were confused to see Japanese Americans in an American Army uniform. Barney was in M Company then transferred to I Company. The guys in I Company were good soldiers. He recalls Mutt Sakamoto.
Barney was wounded in a firefight and stayed in the hospital to recuperate. He said he was lucky that the bullet hit him in the arm rather than in the chest. Barney returned to the United States and stayed in a Michigan hospital to recover from his injuries. Post-war, Barney received the Medal of Honor. He recalls his army friend that was killed in action.
He flew to Washington DC, and President Clinton presented him the Medal of Honor. The recognition represents honor to the country. The Medal of Honor belongs to I Company, not just him. They all fought together.

He talks briefly about his family background, including his marriage and children. After this, he talks about the legacy of the Nisei soldiers, sacrificing their lives for what we have today. He also notes that future generations should know what happened, the terribleness of war and that Japanese Americans should be proud of who they are.

Description
An account of the resource
Before getting discharged from the Army, Ikari was asked to participate in an objective Army program, in which they wanted Nisei soldiers to dress in Japanese uniforms and act as one would in the Japanese Army in order to help train new recruits. Ikari and his group would end up denying the request and instead took over janitorial duties. He speaks about the humiliation of this request and the other Army assignments that were similar to this, such as the one on Cat Island. Next, he talks about his educational path, using the GI Bill, ending up with a P.h.D. from Georgetown University. After this, he speaks about his career path and settling down in Maryland, having children and grandchildren. He then shares a message for future generations.
