Yasukochi talks about his time at UC Davis, studying botany as he educated himself for a future in plant breeding. After this, he talks about his shipment to Italy, taking 35 days as the convoy zig zagged across the ocean. Next, he talks about his rank of corporal and being part of the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion, also talking about the background of the 442nd. After his shipment, he would arrive in Sicily and then to Naples, where he would immediately notice the poor living conditions of the Italian civilians. After this, he talks about his first combat in Anzio and having heavy casualties because of a big mounted gun called "Big Bertha".
