Nakasone talks about the reactions to the Japanese attacking the Americans at Pearl Harbor and the effect that it had on his family. His parents understood that they would be seen as enemy aliens after the attacks but also understood that their children were Americans and would have to do their duty for their country. At this time, the Japanese language school and regular school would stop and everybody would have to work on the pineapple fields once a week. Next, he talks about receiving his draft notice and his thoughts on going to Japan. He would head to Tokyo and join the Allied Translator and Interpreter Section at the NYK Building. He talks about various experiences, including traveling through Japan and interacting with Japanese civilians. He also talks about what it was like in Japan during the occupation, seeing small food rations for the locals, General MacArthur's leadership and the impact of the Japanese American soldiers.

An account of the resource
Tanaka discusses his time at Poston concentration camp in Arizona. He would work outside of the camp, but when the loyalty questions came about, he would end up answering no, yes and getting drafted into the Army. He was attending art school in Kansas when he received his induction notice and would head to Camp Shelby to begin his basic training. He would be trained with the mortar squad and become a replacement with the 442nd Regiment. He talks about the shipment to Europe, first going to Scotland, then going through Europe and eventually landed in Le Havre. He also talks about the whereabouts of his family during the war, including his father having a hearing in Santa Fe.

An account of the resource
Kiyoji Morimoto discusses his birth date, birthplace and familial description. Morimoto's father is from Japan and becomes a commercial fisherman in Hilo, Hawaii. Morimoto's Father is a happy go lucky guy. His occupation requires him to work on the weekdays and the weekend he goes to happy hour with his friends. Morimoto does not remember much about his Issei Mother because she passes away when he is young.
As a child, Morimoto would sell fish and make allowances. He describe all the food he can buy for $.25. This included candy too. In the Morimoto household, the children and parents did not communicate as much. Morimoto theorizes it is due to the kids speaks English and the Parents speaks Japanese. Also another reason is his Parents have no time to learn English because the are working to support the six children. After the war, Morimoto learns that his oldest sister is adopted. He says he does not know much about his family history because there is a lack of communication.
Morimoto recalls fishing since live next to the Bay. At the Bay, his family lives in a unit that has two bedrooms and a kitchen. Other activities Morimoto enjoys are going to the park and playing football at local club. He shares sport rival stories and making homemade weapon toys.

Description
An account of the resource
Sumio Frank Shimada shares his experience with the Hawaiian soldiers at Camp Shelby. Frank had a good experience with them and learned how to speak pidgin.
At Camp Shelby, the summer was hot, and the winter was cold. The winter was chiller, especially for the Hawaiian soldiers. Frank recalls the Hawaiian boys would sit by the fire all night. In training, Frank learned about the 100th and their accomplishments. The 100th trained at Camp Shelby before going overseas fall of 1943.
After Frank's group completed basic training, they joined the earlier group to form a company at Camp Shelby. Serving in the Army, Frank wanted to show the Government he was a good American. He felt that was the same sentiment with the other Japanese Americans serving in the army.
When Frank prepared to go overseas, he departed from Newport News, VA. The trip took a month, avoiding the German submarines. Frank arrived in Sicily, Italy, first. Overseas, Frank was in the 3rd Platoon, 3rd Squad. He recalls his first battle and seeing his first casualty. Frank describes his third day in combat with the German soldiers.
Frank's major battles were Rome-Arno and Rhineland. During the Hill 140 battle, Frank was in the 3rd Platoon, 3rd Squad, the Platoon Reserve hauling ammunition during the battle on Hill 140. There were many casualties from hill 140. After Hill 140, there were no more battles until Luciana.

Muranaka goes through his work in the Army after the end of World War Two, where he served in the Korean War. Next, he discusses the importance of Nisei soldiers during the occupation of Japan, and how big of an impact communication is in order to keep everyone on the same page. With many differences in culture, language and upbringing, Muranaka worked hard to make Japanese soldiers feel at ease while interrogating them. As many Nisei soldiers were also doing similar work, it became key to have skilled linguists in occupied Japan.
