An account of the resource
Tochihara begins the interview talking about his family and how they came from Kumamoto prefecture in Japan to Seattle, Washington. He would work as a school boy for a family near his school and would be sent to Japan for a short time to learn discipline, but would be brought back due to disciplinary problems. He would work at the railroad tracks and fish canneries during the summers as well. He would play basketball and attend Japanese language school and would drop out of high school after his sophomore year to work. He talks about facing discrimination and being fired from his job because he was Japanese, even having to steal "I am Chinese" pins to be in certain zones of Seattle.

Description
An account of the resource
Susumu "Chick" Sarae is born on August 2, 1923, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents are from Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, and they have six children. One child lives in Japan for ten years before reuniting with the family in Hawaii.
Susumu discusses his childhood and home life. At home, they speak Japanese and Susumu attends Japanese Language School. Around the age of eleven or twelve years old, he goes to Japan for several months to visit his Grandmother, who is ill. He describes the difference between Japan and Hawaii.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Susumu recalls his father and Taru being sent to camp, and Richard is questioned by the FBI. Susumu himself is drafted into the Army.

Joseph Ichiuji begins the interview talking about growing up in Pacific Grove, California, fishing and playing football with his siblings. He talks about facing discrimination in the job market and attending Japanese language school while also attending regular schooling. Next, he talks about his recreational activities, such as going to dances and camping. After high school, he would work with his mother at the fish cannery. He would be drafted into the Army and begin his basic training at Camp Roberts. While there, the attacks on Pearl Harbor would occur while he was on furlough. He would then be taken from the artillery unit he was in and moved to Fort Lewis in Washington, where he would get his discharge papers.

Next, he talks about his brother, friendships and high school in Los Angeles.
