Description
An account of the resource
Michael Doi was born on May 25, 1920, in Camarillo, CA. Later the family moved to Oxnard, CA, when Michael was five years old. On December 7, Michael went to Los Angeles to watch a movie, and news of Pearl Harbor was announced. During this time, Michael's parents were living in Japan. After December 7, the family business was not affected and still did well.
On January 19, 1942, Michael was drafted and went into service. He went to Fort MacArthur San Pedro and then to Rockford, IL, for medic training at Camp Grant. Michael was a male nurse in the ward for a year before working in a clinic. In Chicago, Michael met his wife, Jean Doi. Michael said his wife was influential in the redress and helped get the swing vote from their Assemblyman in Georgia.
After working in the clinic for a year, he was transferred to Camp Sheridan and then to Camp Blanding. At Camp Blanding, Florida, he trained as an infantryman. He describes the conditions and training at camp Blanding. Michael made friends easily and had a good relationship with the Hawaiian soldiers.
The training was quick because replacements were needed overseas. Michael's oldest brother Sam was drafted, and his younger brother Jimmy was drafted. Michael reunited with his brothers briefly at Camp Blanding before shipping out. However, Sam was discharged and sent to Gila.
In Europe, Michael joined the 100th, A Company-Mortar. As a mortarman, he could not use the mortar in the forest due to shell burst. Michael said the German weapon sounds scarier than a mortar because you cannot hear a mortar. He recalls experiencing artillery fire.
Michael recollects many battles and life on the battlefield. Occasionally, Michael gave aid to wounded soldiers who needed treatment. Hot meals were not served frequently, but soldiers survived on C rations and K rations.
After the Lost Battalion and losing many soldiers, General Dahlquist did a review. The remaining soldiers and Michael were sent to the French Italian border to guard until they received replacements. At this time, Jimmy joined G Company, Michael remembers running into Jimmy and his friend.

Description
An account of the resource
While in Bruyeres, Tsuji would be wounded in action and talks about the intricacies of that. He also talks about his time in Marseille and being able to take a pass to explore the local shops and find that the black market was alive and well. He would find newly packaged toothpaste at a local cosmetics shop and see off-branded cigarettes often. Next, he talks more about how he was wounded, being in the Vosges Mountains, he would be in his foxhole, when he felt a huge explosion behind him and his body flew through the air, losing sensation in the lower half of his body. At first fearing that he was decapitated, the feeling soon came back into his body and he would be moved off to get a surgical procedure done. He would be shipped back to the United States to be discharged, but talks about how he still has shrapnel in his body from that explosion.

Description
An account of the resource
After the campaigns in Italy, Tsuda's unit would move into Southern France, where they would be involved in more combat, including a mortar barrage that wounded him with shrapnel into his hip. He would head to the hospital and stay there for a short time before being sent back to the front lines. They would then begin the Champagne campaign, where Tsuda would dig foxholes for a couple of days instead of enjoying his rest and relaxation time. After this, they would continue on, taking heavy casualties while coming up one of the hills and getting artillery barrages. One battle was done in complete darkness and it wasn't until the morning that they were able to see the shadows of the German soldiers shooting at them.

An account of the resource
George and Margaret Oshita talk about George's war experiences, focusing in first on the Lost Battalion campaign. He talks about the intricacies of the battle, with it's cold weather and getting trench foot. After this, he goes back and talks about the Bruyeres-Biffontaine campaign and would follow up that with some rest time. He discusses the differences between basic training and real combat, saying that training was more difficult because of the chiggers and snakes that they had to deal with. Next, he talks more about his war experiences, including talking with civilians, the Champagne Campaign and losing friends in the war. He would then return to the United States where he would marry Margaret and start a family. He also would go on to write a book called "And then there were eight".
