Gary completes basic training after 16 weeks and starts advance training. After a month of advanced training, Gary goes to Germany and Japan. In Germany, Gary handles all the shipments that arrive by train. He discusses his relationship with the civilians, Hawaiian soldiers, and dating. When Fort Snelling disbanded, the soldiers transfer to Presidio, Monterey. At Presidio, Ray remains with F Company and has the same duties at Fort Snelling. On some occasions, he visits San Francisco.

The war ends, and Ray discusses his thought on the atomic bomb dropping in Japan. After being discharged from the Army, Ray does not reenlist.

Post-war, Ray becomes an independent farmer with his brother, Tan. Also, Ray marries Mary Muramatsu and has three children. Ray describes photographs of his family and sports team. Ray values and appreciates his family and friends. He says he is grateful for the opportunity to make an oral history and share his war and camp experiences with future generations.

When evacuation orders are announced, Ray and his family go to the assembly center and then to Minidoka. Ray describes the living conditions and job opportunities.

In camp, Ray plays baseball and makes several friends. Ray values the friendships he developed and maintains in contact with his friends. Ray recalls the loyalty questionnaire and says he is proud to be an American.

When Ray is drafted into the Army, he goes to Camp Hood and then to Fort Snelling. On furlough, he experiences discrimination and shares his feelings of being called a "Jap."

Post-war, Ray and his brother go into farming. Ray says Bob Wilson, Don Schneider, and Carl Graff are influential to his success in the farming industry. In 1990, Ray retired from farming and started herb gardening with his wife and son until 2000.

Growing up, Shigeo has an active childhood. He works on the plantation with his father growing food, harvesting crops, school projects, and working part-time on the golf course as a caddie service. Although the Iwamasa family did not have a lot of money, Shigeo says they live an honorable life and are happy.

Shigeo reflects on the Pearl Harbor attack and the start of his Military Service. The process of enlisting happens quickly, and Shigeo regrets not telling his parents goodbye. Shigeo travels to the mainland and does basic training at Camp Shelby. At basic training, Shigeo makes friends with some of the mainland soldiers. One of his good friends is Shichizo Toyota. Shigeo discusses their friendship and the impact Shichizo makes on him.

After a year of basic training, Shigeo is shipped overseas to France. Overseas, Shigeo gets measles and is hospitalized. When Shigeo recovers, he receives orders to be a driver for a Major General. ]]>

Lillian identifies with her Japanese heritage, but after the war, she realizes there is a need to emphasize being American. She recalls three individuals that show support to the Japanese American Community and her family.

Lillian and her family are sent to Puyallup and Minidoka. She describes the living conditions and life behind barb wires. At Minidoka, she meets John Matsudaira. John volunteers for service and leaves in June 1943. They stay in contact through correspondences.

Lillian leaves camp and goes to Ohio and Philadelphia to reunite with her sisters Fran and Ruby. ]]>

Tadayoshi recalls what San Francisco is like in the 1900s with coal stoves, gaslight street lights, and empty lots to play in. He grows up during the Great Depression era and is grateful for always having food to eat.

Growing up in a bilingual and bicultural family is difficult at times. Tadayoshi speaks Japanese and learns Japanese traditions at home. When interfacing with the public, Tadayoshi speaks English. He has several good friends and describes their childhood activities. Tadayoshi also remembers seeing the development of the Golden Gate Bridge.

After graduating from High School, he attends Berkeley University of California. Tadayoshi recalls December 7 and the events following after. ]]>

Thomas and his family live at Castle Estate Kindergarten, where his father works. His family maintains their Japanese values and morals at home. Besides attending primary school, Thomas attends the Japanese Language School. In his free time, his childhood activities include diving for squid, fishing, movies, and barefoot football.

After graduating high school, Thomas works at a few places before receiving his draft notice to join the Army. He describes Army life and the attack on Pearl Harbor. He also shares who are influential role models in his early upbringing. ]]>

Another way that Kubota shares his war experiences is in the I Company book. In 1943, Kubota goes to have dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Beall and a blonde girl. In 1995 at the dedication monument at Camp Shelby. He reunites with the blonde girl. After the reunion they maintain in contact and correspond often.

When the 100th Infantry Battalion has a monument dedication at Camp Benning, Kubota learns of a lady from Georgia trying to learn about her Father's service during World War Two. She is only 5 years old when her Father joins the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Kubota corresponds with her about her Father's activities during the war.

Kubota also shares the grievances of Shiro Kashimo from I Company, and clears his records. Kashino is a Platoon Sergeant, who participates in the Italian Campaign. In addition, Kubota discusses photographs from Italy.]]>
