Inada continues talking about his high school years, talking about associations with Daniel Inouye, who later became a Medal of Honor recipient and American senator. He also discusses the discrimination that was faced before the war, such as not being able to get a job because of race or class implications. Next, he talks about hearing the artillery shelling and seeing the Japanese planes during the attacks on Pearl Harbor and hearing the President speak on the radio. He talks about the aftereffects of the attacks, including pro-Japanese groups forming and people being taken to relocation camps. After this, he would join the Army, volunteering and heading to Schofield Barracks before heading to the mainland.
