Description
An account of the resource
Yokote talks about a photograph that shows members of the band he was involved in. After this he talks about the advantages of being in the band as opposed to an infantryman. As he wasn't involved in much front line duty, he was stunted in his promotional growth but would finish as a private first class, but would not be at risk as much as an infantryman. He gives praise to those that were part of the infantry and also to all those that were a part of the military service overseas. Next, he talks about the assignments they had as a band, including involvement with the Lost Battalion and Vosges Mountain campaigns. They would also be involved with memorial services, parades and sometimes even concerts.

Ikari continues talking about his basic training at Camp Shelby, joining E Company and preparing for their shipment overseas. They would ship out from Newport News aboard a liberty ship, gambling, playing cards and listening to music throughout the shipment. They would arrive in Naples, going through Bagnoli and to Civitavecchia where they would join up with the 100th Infantry. The first combat would be in Belvedere, getting shelled for the first time and fearing the German 88s. He talks about the process of getting to be in reserve, where they would be able to step away from the front line and get a break. After this, he talks about being wounded in action, getting hit in each leg.

Description
An account of the resource
After the evacuation, Kodama and his family would head to Santa Anita race track where they would spend some time in a temporary detention center, where they would have almost no privacy. It was there, that he would meet his first wife, who taught him how to dance. He also talks about riots that also occurred and the restrictions they had because of that. After this, they would be moved to Heart Mountain concentration camp, where living conditions were also poor and the weather was cold. As he became angry towards the Army, he decided to become a no-no boy but would later decide he would only join if drafted. Later, while working in Chicago, he would be drafted into the Army and begin his basic training at Camp Blanding.

An account of the resource
Oshita talks about the sports she was involved with and the recreational activities during her childhood, where she was intrigued with basketball and swimming and her family would have picnics to "talk stories". She would also correspond with her future husband, who was living on Kauai, while she attended McKinley High School. She would go to a lot of movies and get involved with music, starting with the violin and then playing the cello. After her high school years, she would attend business school, learning to be a receptionist and becoming valedictorian. After this, she talks about knowledge of the wars happening overseas and where she was during the attacks on Pearl Harbor. After the attacks, Hawaii would be put on curfew, and have to black out their car headlights and windows, even if just playing cards.

An account of the resource
Frank Hiratsuka is born July 16, 1926, in Aliso, CA. In the late 1800's Frank's grandparents immigrate to the United States and have eight children.
Frank's grandfather is a farmer, and Frank's father briefly works on the farm until he gets another job. Both Frank's parents work in private homes and live at the employer's home. Frank's parents are hard-working and work six days a week.
During the Great Depression, Frank says life is not difficult because his parents have a stable job. Although his parents are always working, they do have time off to spend with family and friends. Frank says New Year is a festive holiday with Japanese food and family.
At school, Frank's favorite subjects are art and music. He plays numerous instruments from the violin, saxophone to the clarinet. He recalls performing at the World Fair with his school band.
Frank's childhood activities consist of games, marbles, movies, and listening to adventure shows on the radio.
On December 7, Frank remembers listening to the radio and hearing the news broadcast about Pearl Harbor. Frank and his parents and the bus driver from the Japanese School decide to go to Ridley (the safe zone).

Description
An account of the resource
Urata continues his recollection of his time in the Honouliuli Internment Camp in Hawaii as the war went on. He also speaks about how he got involved in Hole Hole Bushi music, which he later became famous for. Next, he goes back to his discussion on the living conditions of the internment camp in Honolulu and how the government was trying to close down the camp but the residents refused to leave. The government responded by sending them all out to the mainland, at Tule Lake concentration camp. Urata recalls the living conditions being worse than Hawaii and nearly applying for repatriation but was talked out of it by a close friend. As the end of the war occurred, Urata would end up in Minnesota, where his sister was residing, and became a teacher for the Military intelligence Service Language School. After a few months there, he would return to Hawaii and work as a translator for the Hawaii Hochi, then an advertising position on the radio, followed by a coffee salesman.

Description
An account of the resource
Before going overseas, Tetsuo Asato went on furlough and visited his sister in California. Tetsuo departed on the Aquitania. Although the voyage was rough, Tetsuo did not get seasick. He landed in Glasgow, Scotland, and traveled to South Hampton to cross the channel to Le Havre.
Arriving overseas, Tetsuo got sick and was hospitalized in Marseilles, France, for a few days. He joined his company, G Company, 2nd Battalion, 442nd, in Sospel, France, and was in the mortar section. He recollects climbing a mountain with G Company and living in dugouts on the border of France and Italy.
The next combat was the Lost Battalion rescue. The G Company was hit hard because they had 800 casualties. Following was the Champagne Campaign. Tetsuo said the Champagne Campaign had no heavy troop movement compared to the Lost Battalion. Later, the 442nd received orders from General Mark Clark to come back to Italy to break the Gothic Line.
In the last push, the 100th went north. The 2nd Battalion was the center. The 3rd Battalion was on the right. After a few days, Tetsuo rejoined the line from the hospital. Tetsuo remembers being on assignment as a litter-bearer in Casa Poggio and being under German artillery fire.

An account of the resource
Michael and Jimmy Doi’s parents are from Yokohama, Japan. After eloping, they went to Oxnard, CA. In Oxnard, Michael and Jimmy's father was a farmer, and their mother was a housewife. There were four sons (Dick, Sam, Michael, and Jimmy) and one daughter (Mat).
In 1939, their parents returned to Japan and moved back to Chicago, IL, after the war for a few years. Michael and Jimmy's parents decided to settle back in Japan because all their friends were there. Michael and Jimmy describe their parents as gentle and caring.
Although their parents were Buddhist, the children were raised as Christian. A traditional holiday celebrated in the house was New Year. The children were taught well and grew up to be good citizens.
Michael and Jimmy discuss their school years and participating in sports. At home Michael and Jimmy help with house chores or farm work. Their oldest brother had two produce stores, and Michael helped. Michael and Jimmy recall December 7 and the aftermath that followed.
Jimmy recollects his Sunday School Teacher saying he was American. The following day, Jimmy's friends treated him differently at lunchtime, and he ate lunch alone. Although some people treated the Japanese Americans as an outcast, the Oxnard community treated the Japanese Americans well.
Almost a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Michael was drafted. He went to San Pedro, Camp MacArthur, before going to Rockford, IL. The Japanese American soldiers were assigned to the Medical Training Center, where Michael trained to be a medic and worked in a hospital as an attendant.
Later, Michael went to Camp Blanding, Florida, to be a replacement for the 442nd. Michael transitioned from being a medic to an infantryman. After completing training, he went overseas to be a replacement for the 100th and 442nd.
