Shiosaki begins the interview giving an introduction of himself and his family and how they came from Japan and ended up in Idaho. His father would work on the railroads and the family would live in railroad housing in Fort Hall and in Blackfoot. He talks about the living conditions, schooling and a general sense of what it was like to grow up in Idaho. Next, he talks about how he was listening to the radio during the attacks on Pearl Harbor, and his brother joining the Army right away, and his other brother being drafted shortly after. He would work for a short time after high school until he too, was drafted into the Army. he would head to Camp Blanding to begin his basic training before being shipped out to Europe and arriving in Le Havre.

Bright and Sam Onoda begin the interview speaking of how their parents came to the United States from Oita, and began work in the Washington area. Their father would at the lumber mill until his untimely death, while their mother would put her faith in Christianity, she would remarry a few years later. The boys would grow up in various towns of Washington, going through the Great Depression, attending school and doing what they could to have some fun. Although their mother decided to take their father's ashes to Japan, they would always have a sense of being American. After high school, Bright would work for the Bremerton Navy Yard until the attacks on Pearl Harbor occurred. They would hear President Roosevelt on the radio and immediately head home to figure out the future.

Kubo begins the interview talking about his family background, starting with his grandparents and then talking about his parents who met in the United States as his mother was a picture bride. At the age of four, he would move to Japan, to go to school and help out on the rice farm that his mother was working at. After he finished high school, he would return to the United States, where he would attend a few more months of school before starting to work on farms in California. He would receive his draft notice but defer his induction as he had to get an appendicitis, but would end up joining following Pearl Harbor.

Tsuda begins the interview with a brief introduction of himself and his parents. After this, he talks about what it was like to grow up in Honolulu, living in Haleiwa on a pineapple cannery. He would enjoy attending Japanese language school and would have a heavy influence of Japanese culture throughout his childhood. He would also take part in fishing and judo but would be limited in his recreational time as he had to drop out of high school and begin working as a contractor when his brother was drafted into the Army. Next, he talks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor and being put on a heavy restriction by his work.

Sato discusses more about his childhood in Hawaii, playing football and track for Baldwin High School. He also talks about impactful people throughout his high school days. Next, he talks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor and how they had to black out their windows so enemy submarines couldn't see any lights. He would see his neighbor being picked up by the FBI and never came back. After the attacks, they would be faced with restrictions and forced to carry gas masks with them everywhere they went. He discusses the Japanese influences that could be seen within his childhood home at the time, including an obutsudan and attending Japanese language school. He also talks about seeing people volunteering for the Army, including teachers and his cousin.

Sato first talks about how he came to get the name Robert and how he and his siblings chose their names during grade school. He also talks about how his parents were able to keep them involved in Japanese culture, including Japanese language school and kendo. Next, he talks about what it was like to grow up in Washington, including facing discrimination and the type of community and population that he grew up with. After this, he talks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor and his loyalty to America. As his family owned a farm, they would be forced to sell off their things and evacuate, heading for Puyallup temporary detention center, leaving all the crops and pets behind.

Hagiwara continues talking about his time growing up in Ketchikan, Alaska. He would take an interest in basketball, and even be able to travel to different areas for competitions. Next, he talks about the population of his neighborhood and the friends that he made in school. He also speaks about what it was like in his household, speaking a mixture of Japanese and English, while following the episcopal religion. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, he would seek work at the lumber yard, before volunteering for the National Guard.

Kitagawa begins the interview with an introduction on growing up in Northern California. As his family was in the farming business, he would help there, and enjoy his off-time by playing baseball and picnicking. Next, he talks about his family, which came from Japan, his mother would settle in as a housewife and teach ikebana in the community. He also talks about his childhood years, speaking a mix of Japanese and English in the house, while having lots of siblings. In high school, he would make friends of all different backgrounds and never know what it was like to have money, as it was the Great Depression.

Ida continues to talk about what it was like to grow up in Hawaii, including purchasing a home after high school. He also talks about living in a small town and knowing everybody, while he would attend both english and Japanese school. He talks about what type of values and ethics his schooling taught him and his experiences with his first job at a drug store, followed by the pineapple canneries. Next, he talks about his religion, being Methodist and having a lot of direct influence from a local pastor, who gave him a bible and encouraged him to attend Mid-Pacific Institute.

Ida begins the interview talking about his family background and his father and mother coming from Japan and settling in Hawaii. Yasukochi talks about farming life while living in California, driving a truck up and down the coast to pick up fertilizer in San Pedro and back to Oceanside at the age of 11. Next, he talks more about what it was like to grow up in California, attending Oceanside High School, and finding his identity while growing up in a diverse population. After this, he talks about the discrimination that he faced throughout his life and fighting when he felt necessary. He also talks about fighting when he was part of the 442nd at Camp Shelby. Next, he talks about heading to UC Davis for college and getting a draft notice.

Inada talks more about his family background, including his mother's interests and discipline as a housewife and the languages they spoke in their household. He would grow up in the Great Depression, but still enjoy going to the movies and joining the YMCA. Next, he talks about his schooling, starting at Ka'iulani Elementary School, followed by Kalākaua Middle School and then to Farrington High School. During his school years he would be very studious and spend time at the Palama Settlement Library often. He would also enjoy playing sports with friends.

Kenneth Inada begins the interview talking about his childhood home and what it was like to grow up in Honolulu. He would be immersed in Japanese culture and ethics, watching Japanese movies and attending Japanese language school after his normal schooling. After this, he talks about his family background, his father coming from Yamaguchi prefecture in Japan and his mother coming from Iwakuni in Japan as a picture bride. Settling in Hawaii, his father would open a tofu factory and be very successful, not having to worry much during the Great Depression.

Saiki discusses more about his childhood years, including festivals where the local children would be able to try sumo wrestling and win prizes. He would attend Kauai High School and talks about his whereabouts during the Pearl Harbor attacks. His local church would be taken over by the military and the rice farm would be affected. Soon after, he would volunteer for the Army and get inducted at Hanapepe. They would be shipped from Kauai to Honolulu to report to Schofield Barracks, then be shipped to the mainland on the SS Lurline and trained down in Mississippi. At Camp Shelby, he would be assigned to service company and then motor pool to be a truck driver with A company, which would later merge with the 100th Infantry Battalion. He talks about the furloughs he took and the training that he received.

Ozaki talks more about what it was like to grow up in Florida, including the segregation that he saw, being in the South and how that compared to the segregation at Camp Shelby. Next, he talks about his assignment while in Italy, which was to guard prisoners of war, as part of the Headquarters company. Shortly after, they would be given the order to return to the United States, first stopping in Washington DC for the Friends of Truman march. He would be discharged at Fort Meade and stop in to the University of Florida to register for classes. He would end up graduating from there, and getting his masters and PhD degrees at Ohio State, before being one of the first medical students at the University of Florida.

Tommy Nishioka begins the interview with an introduction of himself and his parents, who came from Japan and settled in Hilo, Hawaii. His father would work with sugarcane workers, growing trees for firewood, while the children attended school and Japanese language school. Next, he talks about attending Pahala High School, playing basketball and going on trips to see volcanos erupt. He would also be involved in a Buddhist organization called the Young Buddhists Association (YBA). After this, he would move down to San Diego to work at a wholesale produce market, and he would immediately feel like he belonged more than anywhere else. Next, he talks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor, being ready to go to a local football game but deciding against it after he heard the news. He also speaks about the evacuation orders and having to sell their farming equipment and facing discrimination.

Kodama continues to discuss growing up as a Seventh-Day Adventist, having many restrictions such as not being able to go to football games or movies. After this, he talks about the holidays he grew up celebrating, including New Years and Christmas, where he would get to have his mother's specialty - sushi. He grew up learning Japanese culture and values, the most important being, do not bring shame to the family name. Growing up in Mountain View, he would grow up in a diverse population but felt he had limitations as a Japanese American. He would attend Mountain View Union High School and play basketball with friends, also talking about the people that impacted his life at this time.

Norman Ikari begins the interview talking about growing up in Seattle, Washington where he would fish often, and go to a baseball games with his father. Due to the Great Depression, his family would move down to Los Angeles, facing his first bout of discrimination, as they settles in Montebello. There, his father would open up another dry cleaning business while his mother remained a housewife, while Norman would attend high school and join the boy scouts. After this, he would begin working at the local fruit stand, as well as picking grapes and then getting involved in the chick sexing business.

There, his father would begin a flower business and collect birds, even joining a club that would trade them. He also talks about his siblings and their background. The family would follow a Buddhist religion, attending Higashi Honganji. Next, he talks about what it was like to grow up in Los Angeles, including the friends he made and the holidays he would celebrate.

Yokote begins the interview discussing what it was like to grow up in Placer County in California, which is a more rural area. His parents would come from Wakayama prefecture in Japan and settle there, having a small farm. After this, he discusses the difficulties that the Japanese Americans faced after Pearl Harbor, including incarceration in American concentration camps and having to prove their loyalty, despite being American citizens. He also discusses his reactions to the various events and the background of his siblings.

Yano talks about the values that were passed on to him from his parents, such as "gaman" and not bringing shame to the family name. Next, he talks about his elementary school, including the population, which was mostly caucasian. He would face a little bit of discrimination but would pay no attention to it, continuing on playing basketball and softball. He would also enjoy recreational activities such as obon, youth groups and celebrating New Years. After this, he speaks more about his education and the impactful teachers that helped him along the way. He would go to high school for a short time but wouldn't be able to go to the graduation because of the curfew after Pearl Harbor.
