Ota talks more about his childhood in Washington and being able to travel around the state playing sports. He would enjoy playing basketball at the YMCA the most and would continue to help his dad working at the hotels they owned. During the summers, he would head to Alaska to work at a salmon cannery, earning money while he attended the University of Washington. Next, he talks about his whereabouts during the attacks on Pearl Harbor, hearing it on the radio. Shortly after, they would be forcefully evacuated from their homes and moved to Puyallup assembly center, where the living conditions were poor and there was very little privacy. After this, they would get moved to Minidoka concentration camp in Idaho before volunteering for the Army and being inducted at Fort Douglas.

After joining the Air Force, Aki would ask to be sent to occupied Japan, instead of having to serve in the Korean War. He talks about coming into Japan for the first time since his time as a prisoner of war, and comparing the destruction he saw when he was leaving compared to the destruction that was seen in Tokyo. He would get his first assignment at Misawa Air Base, where he would end up meeting his wife while there was a parade. He discusses the intricacies of that relationship, since he was an American and she was a Japanese citizen and the long process of finalizing that marriage. He talks more about the occupation, speaking with civilians, including seeing riots and demonstrations by communists against the American government. Finally, he talks about the sharing the history of the Nisei soldiers and shares a message for future generations that they should support their families.

After the evacuation, Kodama and his family would head to Santa Anita race track where they would spend some time in a temporary detention center, where they would have almost no privacy. It was there, that he would meet his first wife, who taught him how to dance. He also talks about riots that also occurred and the restrictions they had because of that. After this, they would be moved to Heart Mountain concentration camp, where living conditions were also poor and the weather was cold. As he became angry towards the Army, he decided to become a no-no boy but would later decide he would only join if drafted. Later, while working in Chicago, he would be drafted into the Army and begin his basic training at Camp Blanding.
