As he was already in the Philippines, they would begin the military occupation in Japan shortly after. He would get over to Tokyo by ship and begin his assignment as an interpreter. When arriving in Japan, Fujimoto immediately saw the kindness of the Japanese citizens and how different they were from the Japanese soldiers. A colonel would seek out Fujimoto and assign him to go throughout Japan, starting in Hokkaido, and talk with Japanese civilians about various topics. Next, he looks through a photo album, talking about meeting General MacArthur's wife and son. Next, he would head back to Tokyo and begin a job working at the front desk of the Daichi hotel. </text>

He would grow up in Kona, Hawaii working at the family farm and then for his aunt at her grocery store, all while attending school and Japanese language school. He would grow up heavily influenced by Japanese culture, as he grew up Buddhist and spoke Japanese much of his young life in addition to English. He would be working at the store when he first heard of the attacks on Pearl Harbor and would be forced to black out their home and carry gas masks to school. After high school, he would work for Captain Cook Coffee as he had an interest in the accounting field and was given the opportunity to keep their books. Next, he would be drafted by the Army and head to Schofield Barracks for his induction before heading to Camp Blanding for his basic training. As his cousin was working as a language instructor in Minnesota, he was able to get Oishi moved to Fort Snelling for Military Intelligence Service Language School (MIS). During this time, the atomic bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered, so the Army cut his courses short and shipped him to Japan to begin his time translating in occupied Japan.</text>

<text>Sameshima and Hayashi are joined by George Hayakawa as they remember Joe Hayashi, who served with the 442nd Regiment and earned a Medal of Honor while in Italy. They talk about various memories of him, including a time during kendo practice, where Joe stood up to the instructor and quit the class on the spot. His anecdotes show that he was a strong-willed individual that are reflected in his actions in the War. Next, they talk about his upgrade to a congressional Medal of Honor and how it was deserved. After this, they speak about the legacy of the Nisei soldiers and the importance of the Issei parents that guided them from the beginning. The three take a look at the actual citation Joe Hayashi was given when awarded the Medal of Honor by President Clinton. They finish by talking about a mounment that was erected by the city of Pasadena and some final recollections of Joe and his funeral. </text>

As a child, Yoshimura had moved from America to Japan to begin his education and to learn the Japanese culture. He would attend high school, but would feel that he didn't believe in the teachings of the Japanese teachers, so after graduation, moved back to the United States to begin his life anew. As he had always seen himself as an American, he would head back with one hundred yen given by his mother, and he would begin working on a farm. Next, he talks about the pressures to become Japanese and conform to the Japanese ways while living there. Once he had joined the Army, he was given an assignment to be part of the public relations team, interpreting for General Headquarters. He would talk to many Japanese civilians during the occupation, treating them as he would a close friend. He discusses the importance of understanding Japanese culture when being a part of occupation for the winning side.</text>

At this time, he was already beginning preparations to move into Japan for scheduled invasions, and therefore, when shipped to Japan, he would begin his time working for the occupational forces. When arriving, he immediately noticed the pure destruction of buildings, and was given an assignment to head to Okinawa. While there, he would speak to Japanese civilians, who would tell him that they had planned to fight until the end for their country and had makeshift weapons ready. After this, he was given an assignment to teach Japanese translations to students. Next, he talks about his various friends that were involved in the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and the campaigns that they were involved with. He talks about how the synergy and contribution of the Nisei is much broader than most people realize. After this, he talks about the difference in seeing Atsugi Air Base at the beginning of the occupation and at the end when he would be sent back home. Ishimoto also talks about Japan's defensive positions before the war ended and his personal identity of being American. </text>

<text>While attending regular school during the weekdays, Kawagoye would also attend Japanese language school on the weekends. He would be lucky to have some very impactful teachers during this time, and was always regarded as a good student. Next, he talks about his whereabouts during the Pearl Harbor attacks, and would head home but life would resume as usual until the Executive Order 9066 came around. Luckily, his family was invited to another Japanese families farm in Nebraska, where they would be able to avoid going to the camps and continue working. He would keep up with news of the war on the radio, and when hearing of the heroics of the 442nd and 100th regiments, he decided he would join the Army as well. He would join at Fort Douglas, and be sent to Camp Blanding to begin his basic training. While training, he would be placed in the Military Intelligence School in Minnesota, and they would get word that the war had ended both in Europe and in Japan and his services would end after a year. He would be discharged and use the GI bill to continue his education at the University of Chicago, in which time, he would meet his future wife. They would go on to adopt two children and live happily in California. </text>

Next, he talks about spending a small amount of time at Tule Lake Concentration Camp and working at farms and on railroads before volunteering for the Military Intelligence Service (MIS). He heads to Fort Snelling in Minnesota for the language school and is preparing for invasion when instead, the war ends. Yoshino is re-routed to Japan to be part of the occupation. He speaks about arriving in Yokohama and seeing the flat devastation from the firebombs all the way to Tokyo. There, he works as an interpreter and in a typing office, where he would oversee local Japanese girls typing characters for reports. During this time, he also was free to explore Tokyo, including the popular Ginza street. </text>

He would grow up on a pineapple plantation, often having nothing to eat and struggling for money. He would jump at the first chance he had to not work on the plantation, by joining the Army, after a recruiter told him about the GI Bill. He would head to Schofield Barracks in Honolulu on his first ever plane ride and have a very fast basic training, sending him over to Yokohama after just six weeks of training. Once he arrived in Japan, he would see the destruction that the war had caused and begin his second stint of training, learning conversational Japanese at the NYK building.</text>
