Ota talks more about his childhood in Washington and being able to travel around the state playing sports. He would enjoy playing basketball at the YMCA the most and would continue to help his dad working at the hotels they owned. During the summers, he would head to Alaska to work at a salmon cannery, earning money while he attended the University of Washington. Next, he talks about his whereabouts during the attacks on Pearl Harbor, hearing it on the radio. Shortly after, they would be forcefully evacuated from their homes and moved to Puyallup assembly center, where the living conditions were poor and there was very little privacy. After this, they would get moved to Minidoka concentration camp in Idaho before volunteering for the Army and being inducted at Fort Douglas.

Description
An account of the resource
After the forced removal from Los Angeles, Teragawa and family were rounded up and sent to the temporary detention center at the Santa Anita race tracks, where they would live in a horse stall with other families. After a couple of months, they were transported to the Rohwer Concentration Camps in Arkansas. There, they would stay in barracks, making their own furniture and eating in the mess hall, where Teragawa was appointed chief cook. Later, after leaving the camp, he would work in Chicago, until he was drafted into the Army and began his training at Camp Shelby. Once his training was over, he found out that Japan had surrendered and the war was over, so he was sent to Fort Snelling to polish his Japanese at the Military Intelligence Service Language School. From there, he was shipped overseas, eventually landing in Manila.

Description
An account of the resource
Wada continues talking about the evacuation orders, forcing them to leave their homes in San Diego and head to Santa Anita racetracks. They would take their personal belongings and live in unclean horse stables, with makeshift barracks and poor living conditions. Shortly after this, they would be moved to Poston Concentration Camp in Arizona where the summers were hot and dry. He discusses the living conditions and the dust storms that they dealt with. There, they would have no privacy, but would still enjoy dances on the weekends. When recruiters one day arrived at the camp, Wada decided he would volunteer for the Army.

Description
An account of the resource
After the evacuation, Kodama and his family would head to Santa Anita race track where they would spend some time in a temporary detention center, where they would have almost no privacy. It was there, that he would meet his first wife, who taught him how to dance. He also talks about riots that also occurred and the restrictions they had because of that. After this, they would be moved to Heart Mountain concentration camp, where living conditions were also poor and the weather was cold. As he became angry towards the Army, he decided to become a no-no boy but would later decide he would only join if drafted. Later, while working in Chicago, he would be drafted into the Army and begin his basic training at Camp Blanding.

Description
An account of the resource
Kodama discusses the feeling he had that Japanese Americans were limited in their activities during his childhood, including dances and sports. He had hopes of attending UC Berkeley and was originally accepted but was later rejected and would end up gardening instead. He talks about his knowledge of the wars overseas, and hearing that the USA and Japan would fight one another eventually. Next, he talks about being at a basketball tournament in San Jose, when he first heard of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Soon after, they would get an evacuation notice and have to sell off their belongings or give them away. They would be sent to Santa Anita race track for temporary detention, saying "shikata ga nai" to their situation.

Description
An account of the resource
Sato continues talking about growing up in Fresno, including finding out that because he was Japanese American, he was only allowed to swim at the local pool at certain times. After the attacks on Pearl Harbor, he and his family would be forced to evacuate their homes and leave much of their personal belongings while they would be moved to a temporary detention center at the Fresno fairgrounds. There, he would get his first job as a dishwasher. He talks about the activities at the assembly center, such as talent shows and judo, before moving to Jerome Concentration Camp in Arkansas. There, he would finish up his high school studies and help to drive the garbage truck, then after about a year and a half, he would move out of the camp to Chicago.
