Kawagoye talks about his assignment at Fort Riley working with a butcher; discusses rations; and talks about his brothers' military service. He then talks about reporting to Camp Shelby and the formation of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team; discusses his assignments at Camp Shelby; and talks about the Hawaiian soldiers he met at Camp Shelby. Next, Kawagoye discusses his Sergeant promotion and duties; talks about what a typical day at Camp Shelby was like; discusses traveling overseas; and talks about his encounters with Italian civilians. Lastly, Kawagoye talks about seeing his family at Rohwer incarceration camp prior to shipping overseas; discusses going into town while at Camp Shelby; and talks about his first impressions of Italy.
