Description

Shintani begins the interview giving an in depth description of his family background. As his father passed away when he was only 1, most of his childhood was impacted by his mother and siblings. Moving from Seattle to Chicago, his mother worked at a restaurant, while he attended school. Next, he discusses the fun times in the snow he experienced, and the impactful people throughout his childhood. After graduating from high school, Shintani would enlist into the Army to join the 442nd.
