Description

Kinoshita discusses dances at Camp Shelby; and talks about Hawaiian soldiers speaking Pidgin English and the interactions between the Hawaiian and mainland soldiers. After Camp Shelby, Kinoshita traveled by train to Camp Henry, and recalls a story regarding a woman and her baby at the train station. Kinoshita discusses traveling overseas to North Africa, landing in Oran, and his assignment as part of a motor pool transporting Italian Prisoners of War (POW). Kinoshita details about traveling to Naples, preparing jeeps for combat, stories about soldiers drinking wine, and describes witnessing and experiencing enemy fire. He then talks about going to Bruyeres and describes the weather and terrain, the French civilians, and the treatment of Japanese American soldiers by French and Italian civilians. Lastly, Kinoshita discusses being a part of the Champagne Campaign and getting passes to go to Nice.
