Description
Hara discusses his name, date of birth and birth place. His parents are Issei and his Father comes to the United States for better opportunities. Hara's Father works in various places before leasing a hotel in Portland called Austria Hotel. Growing up in hotel did not bother Hara until his High School years. When he gains more friendships with Hakujins in High School he realizes the difference in living conditions, houses versus hotel.
In Portland there are two Japanese Communities, North and South. Hara recalls going to Japanese School and joining many Nisei social activities which includes Boy Scouts, Basketball, and Judo.
