Description
Togami continues his recollection of his basic training at Camp Shelby, including scoring high on his tests and playing cribbage. He would then be shipped overseas, taking a convoy to North Africa, before finally being dropped in Naples. There, he would have his first taste of war, working with the instrumentation section, and being a surplus soldier. He would begin his assignment as a forward observer at Leghorn and be 2nd in command, where he would get close to being in combat. Next, he talks about his experiences in both Italy and France, where he would be wounded with shrapnel. He would receive a Purple Heart for his efforts.
