Robert Sato begins the interview talking about his family and how they came from Kagoshima prefecture in Japan and settled in Washington state. He gives more in depth background on his father and mother, telling of the discipline they had, the foods they enjoyed and the values they were taught. Next, he gives background on his siblings. As his family was in the farming business, he gives detail about that as well, also talking about the Japanese American community in Washington.
