Jack Wilson recounts his early life in Indiana and working on building LSTs before being drafted. Next he describes his training and assignment to the 36th Infantry Division in Italy, as well as the fighting around Monte Cassino. Lastly, he describes the campaign in France that leads up to the Lost Battalion incident.
