Description
Kanaya begins with his family history, his father's immigration to Portland, family occupations and education, as well as attending Japanese language school. This is followed by a discussion of religion, growing up in Oregon, his professional pursuits after high school, and enlisting in the Army after being rejected by the Navy and the Marines. Finally, the interview segment ends with his reflections on basic training and advice his parents gave him when he left for California.
