Description

Frank Mizufuka was born in Compton, California. His parents were from the Kumamoto prefecture on the island of Kyushu. They became sharecroppers and worked on a vegetable farm in Montebello, then moved to Whittier to become flower farmers. Frank became the eldest among his siblings after his eldest brother died at a young age. He describes growing up within the Japanese American community, where he attended Japanese language school (gakuen) while also attending public English school.
