Description

Konoshima begins the interview speaking about his family background. As his father came over to the United States, Akio was born in Japan and brought over to California as an infant. They would move to Mountain View in northern California and lease a farm, where he and his siblings would work while they attended school. Growing up there, they faced small amounts of discrimination but grew up happy nonetheless. In his schooling, teachers would tell him that he was a gifted writer, but wouldn't really get into writing until college. After high school, he would attend San Jose State as an engineering major, as his father wanted him to go into a field that was less prejudiced.
