Description

Yamate discusses getting drafted and going to Fort Warren where he had duties as a guard. He then talks about the attack on Pearl Harbor, getting married, and provides some thoughts regarding receiving his draft notice. Next, he talks about his son who was born at Poston incarceration camp and his experiences visiting Poston and Amache incarceration camps. He also talks about his experiences at Fort Riley including the time President Roosevelt came to visit; the relationship between Hawaiian and mainland soldiers; discusses his relationship with Senator Inouye; and talks about dances that were held at Camp Shelby. Lastly, Yamate provides some thoughts about Executive Order 9066, discusses his wife’s experiences at Poston, and talks about his father’s incarceration.
