Description

Kono discusses his employment after high school and during the war in the grocery department of Theo H. Davies Company and talks about witnessing discrimination there. He then talks about his high school friendships and classmates; attending high school reunions; and volunteering for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Next, Kono discusses going to Camp Shelby and his E Company assignment; talks about getting sent to Camp Savage for Military Intelligence Service (MIS); and discusses his experiences in Minnesota and training at Camp Savage. Lastly, Kono discusses his first impressions of mainland Nisei; discusses Japanese American incarceration camps; and talks about corresponding with his family while at Camp Savage.
