Description

Kono reads a poem he wrote and sent to his niece while overseas; discusses his experiences going to New York during rest and relaxation (R&R); and talks about his Military Intelligence Service (MIS) assignment after training. He then talks about shipping overseas and his assignment on Saipan analyzing documents, interviewing civilians, and identifying weapons. Next, Kono discusses his knowledge of Japanese language; talks about his [MIS] team members; discusses earning a Bronze Star; talks about Japanese military raids; and discusses his Japanese relatives. Lastly, Kono discusses his cave-flushing assignment on Iwo Jima which involved attempting to talk Japanese civilians and soldiers out of caves.
