Description
Hashisaka would work at the post office as clerk until he volunteered for the Army as part of the Military Intelligence Service (MIS). He would first head to Schofield Barracks in Honolulu before being sent out on a victory ship to California, where he would see the Golden Gate Bridge. They would get on a train and go to Camp Savage in Minnesota to begin their language training. He talks about studying late through the night and using Japanese dictionaries to find the words he couldn't remember. After his time there, they would head to Fort McClellan for basic training. After that, he would be assigned to go to the Philippines as part of the Headquarters company with Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS).
