Description

Nakamura discusses his experiences at Camp McCoy, including making a skating rink, and then describes going to basic training at Camp Shelby; and what the weather and scenery was like, as well as his relationships with commanding officers and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He then talks about traveling overseas to Africa and recalls being taught how to use a bazooka. Nakamura then traveled to Salerno, where he describes experiencing enemy fire with German soldiers during combat in Italy, witnessing casualties and wounded soldiers, and the differences in sounds in regards to German vs. American machine guns. Lastly, Nakamura talks about captured German POWs, crossing the Volturno River, a battle at Hill 600, the weather and terrain in the mountains, and describes seeing civilians including witnessing women making wine at a vineyard.
