Description
Ito discusses growing up in Portland, Oregon including talking about attending school and playing sports; speaking mostly English at home; and talking about his parents, including his father's various jobs. He also talks about an incident in which his brother experienced racism, and what it was like for his family after his father was taken by the FBI and sent to New Mexico following Executive Order 9066. He recalls incidents in which he experienced discrimination while applying for internships after medical school, and discusses moving to Honolulu for employment. Lastly, Ito describes his experiences as chief medical officer in a Honolulu hospital during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
