Description

Tsukiyama was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents were educated immigrants from Japan. He attend both Japanese language school and English Standard School. During the Pearl Harbor attack, he had been a part of the University of Hawaii ROTC and he was sent to respond as part of his military service. However, he and the rest of the Nisei recruits were honorably discharged after the War Department declared Japanese Americans as "4C" or enemy aliens.
